Vallejo looks at ways to continue providing housing assistance
http://www.timesheraldonline.com/news/ci_2275...

Even as Vallejo's Housing and Community Development Division seeks ways to reorganize staffing levels to keep up with federal funding cuts, some outside relief may be on the way.

On Tuesday, the Vallejo City Council will sign a resolution supporting the Solano Association of Realtors' grant application. The association plans to donate the grant from the California Association of Realtors' Housing Affordability Fund to the city, if received.

For every dollar Vallejo spends of federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds, Vallejo must contribute an additional 25 percent. With last year's dissolution of the Vallejo Redevelopment Agency, the city has been scrambling to find a new local match funding source. The grant would meet that need, according to a city staff report.

The federal government has cut its HOME funding distribution by half since the 2010-2011 fiscal year, according to the city report.

In a further attempt to evolve with other reduced federal housing revenue coming into Vallejo in recent years, the Housing and Community Development Division has been reorganizing staffing levels and job descriptions. On Tuesday, the council will consider establishing a new "housing specialist supervisor" position, the last of several job description shifts.

On the evening's agenda is a similar proposal to reorganize city Maintenance Division jobs.

Later, the council will take a second go at filling vacancies on the Economic Vitality and the Housing and Redevelopment commissions and the Soltrans Public Advisory Committee. Votes last month were met with tie votes, due to the absence of Councilwoman Stephanie Gomes.

In other agenda items, the council will consider:

* Assessing City Manager Dan Keen's performance in his first year, in a closed-door review starting at 4 p.m.
* A closed-door update on labor negotiations with the International Association of Firefighters 1186, International Brother of Electrical Workers 2376, Confidential, Administrative and Managerial Professionals and Vallejo Police Officers Association.
* Presenting Mayor's Cup fundraising proceeds to the Greater Vallejo Recreation District, Solano County Library Foundation, Florence Douglas Senior Center, Loma Vista Farm and Vallejo Outreach;
* Presentation by Solano County Supervisor Erin Hannigan;
* Approving the purchase of 19 vehicles, including seven unmarked and seven police patrol units, four Fire Department emergency response utility vehicles and one Public Works Engineering Division utility vehicle for about $548,000;
* Amending staffing levels in the Maintenance and Engineering divisions;
* Giving second and final approvals to the vacant buildings ordinance and mid-year budget amendment.

Why not offer more jobs and less hand outs. For those of us who pay into the system, this is a slap in the face. These people don't even want to rent unless all the bills are covered. Who does that? And ask about every little detail bout the unit your renting them, as if their doing you a favor. And forget about you asking them bout their credit history and income and how many of their tribe are gonna live there. They feel entitled to be there. This town suks major azzz.

A quarter of my income goes into fuel JUST TO GET TO WORK!! Never asked for anything free. I AM ABLE BODIED AND CAN WORK! My sympathies to those who truly cant provide for themselves and NEED assistance. The rest should be required to perform public duties for our precious handouts.

A small percent really need the assistance. The rest are just lazy no good baby having system leaching takers. I include ALL RACES in this comment. Once they see how easy it is, they never go back to work. And expect pitty for all the babies they have. I pitty the kids, NOT THE PARENTS. The government needs to really GOVERN this system. I suggest background checks, if you want a free assistance check.

So in conclusion, this city is committed by policy to increase affordable housing supply, the only one in Solano County to focus on it, the only one in Solano County to say YES to marijuana trade as business component. These bums in affordable housing lay up and smoke weed all day, so it works out good for everyone.

"Investors" are buying up the property cheap and filling it with subsidized renters at market prices which is 3, 4, 5 times more than the actual monthly mortgage note. Thus, they are not even paying for the house, the taxpayers are. Yet, they are getting richer and benefiting from the properties as they continue to appreciate.
Meanwhile, the people stuck in their underwater homes, who lost their jobs and lost tens of thousands of dollars from their retirement portfolios due to criminal activities where nobody was held accountable continue to struggle and pay for this BS.
Their reward? To live next door to people who care nothing about the property, who don't work have children that tear the place apart and who have no intention of getting off of welfare or its benefits.
This city is a whore. The realtors and US Gov are the pimps and the payout is tax revenues. Easy money.

Funny you mention this JHONNY WALKER. Met him at a city meeting and tried to pass himself to me as a big person in the county. Telling me bout all the positions he held in town. And how now he's a county representative. But, I asked around and found out, all his so called positions where all volunteer and still are. That he was on some sort of economic commision, but has never had a business in town. Are you kidding me. That he tried to apply for a city job, because he thought all his so called connections on the city council would help him, but got turned down because there were REAL QUALIFIED people in town, with the right education for the job and REAL EXPERIENCE. I was told, THIS GUY HAS NEVER BEEN TO COLLEGE. Becuase the person who told me, said they saw his application for the city commision position and saw what he put as far as education..jajajaja..whata joke. Guess he got caught coming back to town from having to go get his ADDICTION NEEDS somewhere else, since his buddy SHOTWELL got shutdown. Cause this is one those people who supports our town becoming an HERB CENTER for the bay.
