I think it was the Cactus?

Wish I had the recipe for the sweet & sour sauce Mexico Lindo put on their tostadas!
ChooChoo Stop was the best!
Don't forget the Home Bakery frosted cookies for the holiday's too!
Halloween being cancelled because of the Zodiac so everyone had to have Halloween parties that year.
Liled's
Bud's Burgers
Pluto's
Golden Bubble
Library on Oakwood
Newberry's
JC Penney's soda fountain
Munters 45's for $1.05
Kreskies/Larwin Plaza
AGE
The Christmas displays in California Meadows when everyone put out candles
Dr Delphine Palm
The OLD Kaiser Hospital
Dr Elston
Vallejo General Hospital being on Tennessee St.
Lodena Dance Studio on Amador
When the tea cup ride was the best at Wonderland
Day Camp at Blue Rock Springs
When the Highway Patrol & Elks Club were the only thing at the end of Redwood.
I have a family recipe that tastes pretty close to Mama Molinar's:
1 C. granulated sugar
1 C. water
1 C. white or red wine vinegar (I usually mix 50/50).
Simmer until sugar is disolved, stirring occasionally.
If it's too tart - reduce the vinegar by 1/4 C, replacing with an equal amt of water. Keeps in the fridge in a sealed jar forever, but it won't last that long.

Do you remember Vallejo Bowl on Tenn. St.. The quarter pound hamburger downtown. Was it called Century 21 movies. The Vallejo Speedway, and the drive in movies. And good old A & W Drive in. Do you remember when the when the Roller Derby came to Corbus Field. That is when things were simple and fun, and Dan Foley was free.
You mean the BAY AREA BOMBERS? Dewit Corrles and Joan Weston.

Roller derby used to be at the fair also.

Dan Foley. Confunkshun used to play there.

I bet nobody knows Confunkshun used to be called PROJECT SOUL.

<quoted text> Of course Newberrys! Downtown was a busy place. Anybody remember a hamburger place called "Toby Jean's" or the China Barn out by White Slough?
Toby Jeans was on Springs Road. It's the little building between Hal Pierce's Appliances and the liquor store. It's part of te appliance store now. The old China Barn had the best fried rice - or maybe because I was so young it just seemed to be good. That was back in the day china Barn would throw in a tea bag, fortune cookies, chop sticks, etc.

Anyone remember the Vallejo High School Song: Something like "Hail to you our alma mater...that's the school we love." I forget the rest. I loved football season and night games at the high school. Something about the night lights at Corbus Field that I loved. I also recall I always had a crush on somebody on the football team.

No - the V is not on Springs Road. It's near Coughlan Street. I think the V is still there - but it's hidden by all the construction around it.

OK, so back in the day it used to be a big deal when somebody’s dad had to go to the dumps. The dumps at Rose drive in Benicia was the best damn dumps west of the Mississippi. You could bring the whole neighborhood and the kids would pile out from the bed of the pickup truck and scavenge away. We brought home so much stuff from that dumps it was incredible. Great garbage, good times.
OMG, Urbie Braito's dump. It was the best place to find stuff when you were a kid. Wasn't the guy at the gate named George?
Remember the tires that burned ( belched smoke) forever in what is now the Benicia Recreation Area?

Yeah... the place was in Lawrin Plaza, at the time he had plans to build a larger resturant down at the warf but it never came to be... at the time he paid 1.25 an hour and you went home every night smelling like bad fish...I used to cash my paycheck at the UCB around the corner and spend the whole lot on my girlfriend...Good Stuff!!!!!
