St. Patrick-St. Vincent High fires coach who reported sexual hazing
http://www.timesheraldonline.com/news/ci_2245...

The head football coach of St. Patrick-St.Vincent High School was fired Friday, only weeks after he reported sexual hazing incidents involving several varsity and freshmen football players.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent Principal Mary Ellen Ryan reportedly told staff and students that Coach Chris Cerbone was fired, and that five varsity players were expelled after an investigation.

Ryan said in a statement that Cerbone was not involved in the hazing, but nevertheless was dismissed because he "had ultimate responsibility for supervising the students during the time the inappropriate behavior took place." Meanwhile, four assistant coaches, who had been placed on paid leave earlier this month pending the outcome of the investigation, were reinstated.

Cerbone, however, was fired.

Ryan said in her statement, released by a spokesman for the Sacramento Diocese, that she received information about the hazing shortly before the Christmas break, but did not identify its source. The spokesman said there were six victims of the hazing.

Cerbone told the Times-Herald that he not only was the one who revealed the hazing assaults to Ryan but also offered to help in any school investigation of them. He said he reported the hazing very shortly after several freshmen football players reluctantly disclosed to him what had happened to them in a school locker room.

The new wrestling coach at Jessie Bethal is next. He's a black dude that eggs his black wrestlers on by telling them to beat "that white boy" during practice. The white boys are his teammates also. He threatens to punch his white players also. And if he is not fired soon some of us dads are going to beat him viciously. The school better step up on this one. No sh!t.

So you and the other Dad's know of this guy's practice and you let it go on? How long are you going to wait to have this inappropriate tool of a "teacher" called to the principals office carpet?
You and the other parents should have been there the day before yesterday!

The boys have to go to that school. They have to see these people every day. These are seniors, and juniors. Young men. Lets see if they can handle it, its what they want. If not, well I wasn't joking. Coach Dunbar is the name. Check it out if it concerns you Gee. Sports keep these boys off the streets, and out of trouble. Coaches should be tough, yes. They are supposed to be mentors. We will not tolerate racism, or threats against the kids. Not against the kids. If it was a white coach he would have been gone already. The school is aware, lets se what the young people can acomplish. Its a very real life lesson.

BTW what exactly is sexual hazing?

The SPSV principal is a person that believes Michael Moore is fair and balanced in his "documentaries"? I am sure she looked at both sides of the argument? Don't confuse me with facts, I just need to CMA.

I no longer have a child in the school system however this "public place of learning" is supported by my tax dollars Â…and I thereby have some skin in this game!

So yes, it is of importance to me personally to have anyone creating a toxic environment for those under his/her charge removed after a complete and unbiased "outside" investigation. There will be someone motivated to take this individuals place and will teach appropriately and without racial division!

Yes, I do know what it means that blowing the whistle may make going to this specific school difficult, but do you want your child exposed to teachings like this and holding still because it will make life difficult? How about your child is not as tough as you thought and something worse than verbal abuse is happening to him/her?

Coaches should be color blind, mentor and guide young individuals in their charge, not create an environment of racial strife greater than already existing on Vallejo's streets.

I fully understand and appreciate that a coach may see potential in some of his charges and none in others. If he wishes to foster only those that have future potential he has to make his goal clear to every parent who leaves their child under his care.

A respected teacher/educator/coach will be tough and fair at the same time. Only an insecure individual will play those under his care against each other by employing racial division which btw. is inappropriate and unprofessional to say the least!

You have to take actions against anyone that will harm and or detour your child's path to healthy adulthood. It is not easy to be a parent, be one and your child will thank you by becoming an asset to any community.
Talk this over with the other parents and if you see a dead end at the school level do not hesitate to seek legal advice! Good luck to you and your child.

So what was it? Some kid gets towel-snapped or made fun of? If the charges are so serious as to be sufficient to fire someone shouldn't we be informed? One thing for certain is that there is a very different set of standards for white coaches and black coaches.

Ms. Ryan needs to be investigated by the diocese. Unfortunately, they don't give a damn. My nephew was unjustly expelled. His situation was almost exactly like Coach Cerbone's. He told the truth, and he was expelled. He was not allowed to participate in the investigation. Although I have taught in Catholic schools for thirty years and I was in the convent, they wouldn't listen to my many cries for help. Bishop Soto wouldn't talk to me, and the superintendent kept sending me back to Ms. Ryan.
When they want extra work from you, they mention God. When you want justice, they say they are a business. The Catholic church needs to take a good look at itself.

Here, here Borges!! The entire Oakland Diocese is corrupt. They claim educate the poor! Yet they don't give a DAMN about the kids from the hood. They are so concerned about their money. Half the people in the administration don't care about procedure or doing what is right, because half the time they are harassing people and breaking those very rules. Been a Bay Area resident my whole life and went to one of those "Catholic" schools when it was all boys---they are NOTHING like what they used to be. These schools used to stand for something.
Ryan wants to say that it's the head coaches fault?!? HE IS A COACH!!! NOT A BABYSITTER!! They don't PAY those HS coaches anywhere near what they should for the hours of practice, film, scouting, and games they put in, and now Ryan wants coaches in the locker rooms?!? What watching the boys take a piss??
And my niece plays HS basketball and NONE of the coaches at any level (freshmen, JV, VAR) are women--so what are you going to do Ryan? Have the MEN coaches sit in the girls locker room and watch them shower so there is no hazing? If you don't think girls haze or harass each other in the lock room your STUPID. If you follow the proper channels how is it your fault?
So remember your words Ryan--and all you admins for these so called "Catholic" schools--because with the precedent you just set, your job, Ryan, is on the line; because if there is sexual harassment going on under your own nose within your faculty and it gets reported, well then you should be fired because "while you may not have known...you have ultimate responsibility" being the "head coach" of the faculty.

Ms. Ryan is in the Sacramento Diocese. The Oakland Diocese is much better, and they are much more compassionate. One high school was willing to take in my nephew, knowing Ms. Ryan expelled him. Be sure you get the correct diocese Mark B.

I know that exact coach! He used to coach for my middle school for pe. One day I was playing kickball with the rest of the class and I tapped him lightly on the shoulder to ask him question. He turned around and gripped my arm and twisted it. I had a sprained wrist and my mother told the office about it and nothing was done.
