Monica Brown misrepresents Bay Trail issue

I would like to offer my deepest appreciation to the staff at the Bay Trails.

When it was revealed that there was a proposal to allow Orcem to pay several hundred thousand dollars to move the Bay Trail away from the south Vallejo shoreline as “mitigation” for the cement factory, the Vallejo community spoke out against this proposal. My office contacted the Bay Trail staff to let them know I was opposed to this proposal.

On Monday June 11, the Bay Trails staff sent a letter to the City of Vallejo and copied my office stating that the Bay Trails was no longer supporting the proposed mitigation of allowing Orcem to cut off the south Vallejo shoreline.

This means that the Orcem cement factory cannot buy its way to cutting off waterfront access to south Vallejo. Thank you to the Bay Trails staff for listening to the Vallejo community.

In 2015, Bay Trail staff submitted a comment letter responding to the Vallejo Marine Terminal (VMT) & Orcem Project Draft EIR. The letter acknowledged that the proposed industrial project would preclude the public from accessing nearly a mile of shoreline in southern Vallejo thereby preventing the completion of the Bay Trail in that area.

The letter also offered a suggested off-site mitigation for this potential loss - the completion of a 4,500-foot Bay Trail gap along Wilson Avenue between Sacramento Street and Lighthouse Drive in Vallejo. In response to a request from the City, Bay Trail staff provided an estimated cost for this gap of approximately $380,000.

It has recently come to our attention that many residents in Vallejo strongly oppose the VMT/Orcem project and the proposed mitigation to fund the Wilson Avenue gap for the potential loss of shoreline public access associated with the project.

The Bay Trail is not taking a position on this development project; however, regardless of the City’s decision on the proposed project, we encourage the City to work with the community to complete the Bay Trail along the shoreline in southern Vallejo.

It appears that Monica Brown, in her interpretation of the Bay Trail, is playing loose with the facts.

now after all these years people suddenly want to walk in the mudflats of south vallejo and re-purpose the mill after years of ignoring south vallejo? this woman wanted to build a sports stadium on the site, day use only i suppose so the night games lights will not bother her sandy beach friends.

The idea that this Bay Trail scheme is to be uninterrupted is unrealistic. How does it go around the waste treatment plant? Or PKS private property? Brown is batshitt nutty, she wanted a new stadium for the Admirals instead of VMT/Orcem!!

The Bay Trail web page has it up on Sonoma Blvd anyway. This trail is not mandatory, just a snowflake dream. Does Brown or her stooge Hallet look like they do a lot of walking?

It's always been along Sonoma Blvd. The Bay Trail has NEVER been, or even planned along the waterfront in South Vallejo.

This is the same lady who said she was against the project because she didn't want another Flint Michigan! Room temperature IQ at best, relying on Hallett to steer her Titanic.

Looks like Hallett orchestrated the whole thing. He's the one copied on the letter. He probably even wrote the LTE. 2020 can't come soon enough.

If the candidate forums had been televised in 2016, she would have finished dead last.

The only thing better in a Vallejo area election than a Filipino surname, is having a name used in 1st grade reading books.

Monica wants to make schools safe by installing bulletproof windows at schools. The district is looking at a $6 million deficit and she wants to turn schools into prisons. She doesn’t seem to have a big fan club on here.

Yah, to reduce the number of students shot by snipers through windows, right?

Or are they to protect the security guards waiting outside until the shooting stops?

What happened to the kayak ramp that Orcem said was compensation for pumping all that dust into Vallejo?

I want the Sandy Beach fishing pier. No public access down that way, and I hear the fish are attracted to the raw sewage from the leaky pipes.

It's very telling that Fresh Scare Brooks did not chime in with a back slap at TH comments. Even a moron like that knows that Brown is mis-stating Bay Trails position, basically, "ya'll work it out".

Funny thing is, Brooks did all the leg work for Hallett, essentially handed all the documents to him. Then Hallett misinterpreted the whole thing, and wrote the letters that made his boss look clueless. As funny in public as well as behind the scenes.
