Rep. Mike Thompson to host gun violence prevention forum in Vallejo

Rep. Mike Thompson, chairman of the Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, hosts a public gun violence prevention forum in Vallejo next week, his office announced.

A hunter, gun owner, former Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus chairman and a veteran who carried a military assault weapon during a tour in Vietnam, Thompson will "bring together experts, stakeholders and community members for a comprehensive discussion on the steps that must be taken to reduce and prevent gun violence," his office announced.

House minority leader Nancy Pelosi named Thompson to head the task force in the wake of the recent Newtown, Conn. massacre in which 26 students and teachers were gunned down at Sandy Hook school.

Law enforcement officials, mental health experts, school officials, elected officials and community members are expected to attend the forum set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Vallejo City Hall, 555 Santa Clara St.

As a result of redistricting, Thompson now represents California's 5th Congressional District, which includes the all or part of Solano, Napa, Contra Costa, Lake and Sonoma Counties. He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Rep. Thompson is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Wine Caucus.

hey rich millionaire congressman, you took the oath to support the U S Constution, take a look at the 2nd Amendment, as we all know, you congress people don't read anything before you sign it. keep your grimey hands off the guns of Americans, after all the reason for the 2nd Amendment was to protect us from the likes of you and your gun snatching democrat fellow travelers
and by the way, ask fineswine if she would be a senator if it wasn't for a gun. and don't all of you have armed security where ever you go ? local police, private security, secret service but want to prevent the people from protecting themselves from you and your criminal supporters.
