Former Fighting Back Executive Director Tony Pearsall was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run Sunday night after he allegedly struck a parked car in the Lucky's Supermarket parking lot, Interim Police Chief Joseph Kreins said.
Pearsall is also a former Vallejo Police Department captain, former City Councilman and is married to City Councilwoman Stephanie Gomes.

Pearsall did not immediately return a phone call and an e-mail seeking comment, and could not be reached immediately.

Kreins said police received a call about 9:16 p.m. after a witness reportedly saw a vehicle hitting a parked car in the parking lot at Tuolumne and Redwood streets.

The witness apparently flagged down a police car temporarily parked in the lot to report the incident, Sgt. Herman Robinson said.

Witnesses gave officers a description of the vehicle and a license plate number which came back to a vehicle in the 200 block of El Camino Real, Robinson said.

Officers went to that location trying to find the car, Robinson said.

As the patrol car turned southbound on El Camino Real they saw the suspect vehicle approaching northbound on the same street, Robinson said.

The vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the street at a slow speed, Robinson said. He was the only person in the vehicle, he added.

Officers turned on the patrol car's siren to stop the car.

Kreins said Pearsall stopped nose-to-nose in front of the police car, while Robinson said

he struck the police vehicle's bumper, causing minor damage.
Pearsall was reportedly taken out of the vehicle and detained after allegedly showing symptoms of being under the influence of either alcohol or prescription drugs, Robinson said.

Pearsall was taken to Kaiser Permanente for a blood test and was cited and released at the hospital, police officials said.

If not true the Pearsalls should sue Topix and the person who posted the headline.

If true this is another example of Pubic Safety employees who dont understand the oaths they have taken or the laws regarding confidentiality.

Driving and taking prescription medication was the cause.
Not defending it but it puts things into perspective.

What perspective is that? Driving under the influence of drugs is less egregious than driving under the influence of alcohol? What a bunch of sorry ass enabling idiots.

I think you are right. Did Tony get special treatment because of his wife.

I remember a Superior Court judge was arrested and booked into jail for his crime. What makes Tony different? I guess the policy of the Vallejo Police Department is to let you go if you are arrested for a hit and run while drunk or on drugs. Let's hope they treat all future people they arrest for the same crime the same way. Otherwise this screams preferential treatment for the city council member's husband.

Questions need to be asked and answers.

Good luck with the recovery process Tony.

Usually these liberal rats claim they suffered a "seizure" and were on "prescription" drugs; he'll worm his way out of it.

any "special" treatment pearsall may have received has litlle, if anything, to do with his wife. it has everything to do with his position as a retired police officer. she wasn't with him and is not responsible for his actions. why should she resign?

Leaving the scene of an accident. Did not leave a note? Misdemeanor at least. How much trust and integrity is displayed by leaving without trying to notify the owner of the other vehicle? Perfect person to give grant money to.

The neighborhood watch associations should be recognizing the individual that called in the hit and run, for actions that helped the community, by removing a irresponsible operator from our streets.

Immediately jumping to conclusions. Nice.

Fact - Tony was handcuffed and sent to Kaiser. So far, no report if it was alcohol related or prescription meds. But if he hit a car and couldn't drive on the correct side of the street, I suspect he should not have been driving and was a danger to the public by doing so.

You would think that a former high ranking Police Officer would know better, but it's just another example of feeling above the law.

If his trip to the store was important, you would think that Stephanie would have made the trip for him, since she was available.

Obviously not the only one "jumping to conclusions".
