Sherriff Rene Rivera is out for himself and no one else, you read the local paper (news-bulletin) you can read the article about how he wants to hire new deputies he should really say he has friends that need jobs. the department has that amount of deputies sitting behind desks as punishments they can be put on the streets and save that money. If anyone was to look into the day to day operation of the Valencia County Sheriffs department you will see a very discruntled bunch due to the Sheriff and his right hand man Rick Garcia aka undersheriff also known as over paid secretary. a few months back the sheriff asked the commissioners for permission for out of state travel for himself and his NEW secretary to travel to Reno nevada. the commission denied the secretary, well that was not good enough for the Sheriff he was determined to get his way; so he took evidence drug money to pay for the trip for her, the two of them went, you can call to confirm this.
the sheriff also has his department pets that he will go above and beyond to help, lie for, help save the jobs of those that will lie for him and the ones that speak spanish, he is in the process of firing a probationed employee for telling on one of these pets for tazing a cooperating female, something this employee knows is wrong, dirty, and evil. so instead of ridding of that dirty employee he is firing her. Good thing this female is protecting herself.
if any tax payer cares to look into any of this please do so, this is the elected official that is bringing the department down and could careless for the public safety as he says.
he is wasting tax dollars in painting cars and trucks, tinting windows to hide these dirty friends, and taking dirty money for a trip for himself and his secretary to be dirty.

many know this but are afraid to come forward

bravo for spoofing your posting ip out of the area. Many who posted on topix here using a local ip dissing the current administration for some reason do not post anymore. Maybe they were contacted and the situation resolved or just gave up in frustration that no one can change anything.

And this is news to you why? It's like that on every police force. I will agree with Rivera in YES the county needs more officers. The problem with getting dirty or lazy ones is what the county pays them. You can work the drive thru and McDonalds and make just as much as a sheriff can. Better pay would mean better qualified officers. Just my opinion here. I've lived all over NM the only reason it seems so bad here is because APD and BCSO has run all of their POS criminals down to Valencia county and other surounding areas. Rivera may not be the best but, we could have a lot worse. We need to pay them better so we can get better aplicants.

What is really strange is no one seems to care, REne has deputies in special areas for unknown reasons, he has a deputy that falsifies reports, and looses evidence, and lies on timesheets, this gentleman has already been in and out of courts for this with state police, the academy has looked into it and agrees he should loose his certification, they are just waiting for the state to decide. If the department would rid of him and not be afraid of him playing the race card. that would free up one deputy position. every one there should be looked at and reasigned to make these streets safe. instead of trying to do for themselves and Rene playing favorites due to the scratch my back and i will scratch yours. that or Rene is doing these guys wives so he needs to take care of these few deputies he insists to protect.

Don't know about all of that. I really don't think getting rid of one officer is going to do anything! They need many officers. Valencia County is greatly understaffed. I can honestly say that has NOTHING to do with Rivera, it's do to the fact that the county pay's like $9.00 or $10.00 per hour. WTH! I wouldn't even work in fast food for that pay.

You are mind numbing! For one I do not know who this person is. For two I'm not a big suporter of the Valencia County Sheriff's Dept. If it were up to me they would all be replaced. But, the fact of the matter is they are greatly understaffed! I happen to be in their area. When I call 911 we are lucky if and that's a big if, they show up at all. I guess you have to be a druggie to get them to respond. Or is it idiots like you that tie them up all the time???? Think about it when they ask for better pay. And BTW I did not vote for Rivera but, a heck of a lot of others did. I have tried talking to our State Reps to get them better pay so that we can in fact have better officers. Why don't you try it instead of Bi***ing on here? Sounds to me like you've been arrested one too many times.LMAO:)

now now!! lets not get off the subject. as for the Deputys pay yes it is very low. BUT this conversation is about the SHERIFF and the Sheriff alone not to mention his sidekicks.
THE Moral in the department and the money Rene is using on stupid things, do the deputies really need tinted windows? or drug money to take his secretary on a sheriff confrence? things like that. AND NO I DID NOT vote for that MEXICAN on a power trip.

save your keyboard and frustration its always the same ones in here defending the same old crooked valencia county ways because they are getting something out of it. Would not be surprised if it was the same 911 operators that text message their friends before they dispatch the police to that area. Several cops have stated that is possibly what is happening.

Add to your list the three brand new ford pickup trucks for the sheriff and his two in the chain of command to drive. Why they need pickups is anyones guess. Just take a drive down luna ave all pretty lettered up.

what is really sad is the public doesnt know what happens inside. it should be brought out so the tax payers can really take action. we need a sheriff that knows what he is doing and wants to make a change in this county.

I work at belen walmart and a co-worker told me some people came in and bought a bunch of tables and chairs the manager gave them a big discount because of some petition.

i just spent about 10 minutes with google and came up with a mention of a petition on the meadowlake website. I am going to email and see if this is the petition everyone is talking about. Someone on there has a lot of guts to go take pictures of drug dealers.

Guts yeah but I hope they have no children. You never know what a drug dealler will do. I see what they are trying to do but dang! I sure wouldn't do something like that. Scarry. I don't know who is crazier. The dealers or the person behind the camera.

I'm surprised that no one has brought up the fact that Rene is a known pedophile. He likes girls about 12 years old, same as most of his predecessors. He comes out of Lawrence Romero's old bar in Jarales where him and LAWrence, Richard, Manuel and the entire Garley family spent all of their off hours trying to lure little girls.

Hell one of the Garley's got caught with a 13 year old girl in a motel room.........WITH HIS WIFE,and him, in bed NAKED.

I know for a fact that Rene raped a 13 year old girl a few years ago, but it was swept under the rug by Mike Runnels, DA.

Rene was on the NM drug task force, but only for a few days, and then was canned.

Oh those pickups. LMAO. Ever notice how the littlest sob's have to have a big pickup and a gun? Most real cops want a vehicle they can get around in easily and that doesn't stand out. Something that'll blend in with other traffic. He's driving one now that has chrome wheels, running boards {so he can get in}, a lift kit and about a million dollars worth of strobe lights. He spends a lot of time at 1 house in Meadowlake right after school lets out. Just happens an 11 year old latch key girl lives there.

We all know that the Valencia County Sheriff's Department is, and has been, one of the most corrupt law enforcement agencies in the country. You can't expect the state police to do anything while the sexual favors are passed on to them too. The whole state is corrupt from the governor on down.

There have been a few good cops in Valencia County, but they don't last long. Once they find out how corrupt the department is, they leave pretty quick. They get their certification and move on. The only ones that stay are the ones who can't get a cop job anywhere else. For example Cody Prestwood.

But if you think VCSO is bad, just look at Bosque Farms PD. Yesterday one of their LT's was busted in San Diego smuggling an under age girl into the country. What's that, number 3? They all sleep in the same bed.
