This was pulled from the Hiawassee forum.
No one in here has mentioned a very, VERY direct tie between Scotty Fain and Eddie Osborn. It appears that back in February of 2007, the two of them purchased some land in Kentucky together. Now, there are some very interesting things involved in this deal. First of all, the price of the land (3 tracts worth) was valued at $115 and $262 (this was for two tracts). Now, Scotty is doing pretty well for himself; we've all agreed to that. And while Eddie is only a Chief Deputy in a small NE GA town, he makes enough money that he could have purchased all this land on his own if he wanted to. Second, it wasn't just Scotty and Eddie; both of their wives are noted as owners as well. So, for those of you keeping score at home, that would be four owners for these three tracts of land. Third, the location of this land is in Barren County, KY, just south of Glasgow. Now, if you are familiar with that area of the country, you'll know that it's very wooded, pretty remote, and somewhat hilly. Fourth, KY is noted as being one of the largest state producers of marijuana in the US. Hmmmm....remote, wooded, hilly land.... Fifth, all this can be found online in the Glasgow newspaper: http://www.glasgowdailytimes.com/local/local_ ...
I think some more research needs to be done here...rest assured, I'll be doing my own digging on this one. I hope others out there will be too.

In addition, there seems to be some tenuous connections between one of the men arrested in Valdosta (Derek Stephens) and Scotty Fain. It appears that Derek did more than just fly drugs into the county; he also runs an aerial photography business ( http://www.airspeedgraphics.com/aerial-photog ...).
This business did aerial photography for real estate developers as well as video of their land. What was one of the clients? The Ridges. Now, there aren't too many Derek Stephens in UC who are pilots...are there? The connections that others here have alleged appear to be confirmed through a bit of triangulation.

There is a reason why Scotty Fain's name is on top of the list of "witnesses" whom are off limits to Eller, Osborn, etc.

Valdosta has very ethical law enforcement. They will not get the "special" treatment down there that the surrounding counties up here would give them. Is Derek Stephens' father the School Supt.? I also wondered if Jonathan is related to someone in law enforcement.

Derek Stephens' dad is Tommy Stephens, who is the superintendent of Union Co. Schools. Derek also worked in the school system in their I.T. department. I don't know the other guy, but I hope they both get what they deserve-Jail! Let's see if Derek's daddy can get him out of this ordeal!

I know both of this guys and it makes me sick to thing that they have done such. Tommy Stephens is a wonder person and shouldn't be put down for what his son did. Derek is a grown man and makes his on Troubles. I just feel for the families that are left wondering why.

This is much more than a "MISTAKE". How many young lives could have been ruined by the drugs he was bringing up here?
How do we know how many drugs may have been transported or sold before he was caught? If they had not been caught out of Towns or Union county, would we even have known about it? The fact that he had access to school children makes it worse. Towns and Union County are saturated with drugs and corruption and most of it is connected to those that are supposed to protect us. Much prayer is needed for our area. Let's first pray for our children that are hooked on these drugs.

where there is some smoke, there is some fire. i don't doubt that those who are "supposed" to protect us are hot and heavy into illegal drug trade.

If he gets out of this one he will be right back working at the school as if nothing happened. Being the superetnednts son and all. Just like the high shcool principle that sent porn over his computer at school to other teachers. He just happens to be married to the ex superentendants daughter.

Any responsible parent would say, "If you did this, you need to do prison time. When you get out, send us a card. But you can't go home again."

Yes it is true that both these boys did the crime. We shouldnt hold that against the parents. Somebody asked who was the other boys parents...his dad is Phil Nichols who is the probation/or parole officer for Union County. I feel sorry for both these parents.

I don't believe he said he would rather other drugs to be used and it definitely is not a joking matter. I highly doubt there people use other drugs because it is harder to get marijuana. It is still pretty easy to get marijuana. From where do you cite your statistic that other drug use has gone up from a lack of marijuana?

You know... if these drugs were truly for one person's private stash - as per the latest spin, it'd be somebody with a mighty big budget...

I believe I read in the article that the drugs were valued around $10k. Most of the druggies I have dealt with do not have $10 never loan $10k.

Well you do indeed to appear to be a family member. Good boys do not carry 5 lbs of drugs. Good fathers do not enable their sons as Tommy is doing. Good fathers, yes may help them out, but also believe they did wrong and do not call them 100% innocent. Good boys take responsibility for their actions and do not pin all the blame on the other family.

Most of us our praying, but we are praying that God shows the Stephens they are wrong and it is time to stop playing games and own up to consequences. But you keep those rose colored glasses on!
5lbs is not a little bit of pot, it is a lot of pot that is about to hit the streets. But they got caught.
