NEEDED NEW SHERIFF wrote:
The county of Lowndes is seeking a Sheriff that takes pride, has knowldege of how a Sheriff Office work, willing to spend countless hours working a budget (one that takes care of his employees, benifits the Citizens, not his fat pockets), Understand the workings of all divisions (Narcotics, K-9, JAIL Operations, Warrants). One who is willing to sacrafice all for a county that he loves. A man/woman with morals, not more affairs. One who is not rascist or partial to a discion. A man with honor, courage, and loyalty. A man that says he is Christian Faith, and actually acts like a Christian ( Spreads the word of God ) not the hate of the devil.
Not looking for a Sheriff who wants his face on the T.V, has personal issues with employees, and fires many for no reason.
Moral to this post, Chris Prine has failed at many attempts to help the county. The community does thank him for what he done to search for young Eunice. But any person would have done that, but I will credit him for that.. Chris prine cant write a budget, he hold personal issues, he makes spots on the ICE Team, Narcotics, Investigations, and Command Staff, at the county expense. The county needs to cut spots, and move those officers into the Patrol and have them ride the streets, PREVENT CRIME.. CAn you tell me when the last time the ICE TEAM made a bust that put money into the funds... I wonder how much HENDERSON makes as a Major.. Sheriff Paulk didnt have a major, he had captain over patrol, special operations, investigations, and jail, a Cheif Deputy. I bet Henderson makes great pay..
Needless to say prine will never be considered a Sheriff. He should have asked Sheriff Paulk for pointers on how to manage anything.. Prine you failed on this buddy, due us all a favor and get out while you can. Dont make this any harder on yourself, and also take that little puppet Joe Crow with you, hes a loser and a fake.
You may be right about that, can you believe they have put computers up for inmates when families goes for visit. Where is the money coming from us. US taxpayers I mean really I feel there is a serious problem here in Lowndes County. And they are trying to be voted friendly title town. Give me a freaking break, talk to the people of this county and not the Politicians here. I am praying the truth come out really soon about the city of Valdosta and County of Lowndes. This is crazy here.

Do you have any idea how much more control officers will have over visitation with that system? Or how little contraband will be passed?

Probably not. 10% of fines in Lowndes County go to teh Jail Construction Fund. Further, profits from Inmate Commissary and Drug Seizure are generally used for those purchases. Capital purchases need to go through the commissioners and take forever to get approved. The bottom line is that criminals more likely paid for that system than tax dollars.

If you want to know the truth, you should gain a better understanding of what the options are instead of guessing and accusing folks. Those are simple budget issues, and could have been clarified by teh Sheriff, JD or any of the other candidates who ran.

Are you aware drugs are stilling getting into the jail. By whom
the people who work their. So what is really or shall I say who is the real problem. Everyone should do time for their wrong but that does not justify inmates beat by staff. This is real.

I have worked in all aspects of a jail. I know for a fact that dope gets in. Along with cigarettes, food, and God knows what all. In fact, I could tell a story about a jail supervisor that was involved in a food stamp scam if I wanted. But, I digress.

The fact is that it doesn't matter WHAT Sheriff is in office; dope gets in. Why? Because the Sheriff can't look over the shoulder of every officer every minute of every shift. A better screening process you say? Good idea. But, know this: You never know who is gonna go bad. I worked at a jail where a preacher and ordained minister was selling weed, coke and cigarettes to inmates. I have seen jailers who were churchgoing, married with kids and sell sexual favors to inmates. I watched an up and coming jailer set himself up to be busted by feds conspiring to distribute cocaine. Why, this past week, a childrens ministry pastor was arrested for child molestation right there in Valdosta.

The bottom line is that you can screen new hires, watch them and train them, but the ones with weaker will succumb to greed. There is no test for that. Who the sitting Sheriff is has little to do with that, unless the Sheriff has NO policy in place, or dilutes existing policy. I happen to know for a fact what the Lowndes policy is/was, and can assure you that there are safeguards in place. Short of having a K9 at the employee entrance, you have to rely on the integrity of the jailer. Its like that everywhere. If you look at prisons, its the same thing. Those guys are all but strip searched at the door, but dope still gets in. It is everywhere.

As far as inmate beatings go, I have seen the good and the bad in that. I have seen pugilistic and punchy officers go too far, but I have also seen punk ass inmates rile officers up, act all kinds of a fool, disobey and cause a disruptive environment for the other inmates (the majority of which are mostly fairly well mannered and well behaved). When action is taken, passive resistance by inmates necessitates a hands on approach by jailers to move the inmate to a controlled environment, and the fight is on. The inmate then gets all surprised and belligerent when he totes an ass whooping when all he had to do was stay low on the radar.

In my 14 years of law enforcement, I have NEVER seen a jailer or jailers approach an otherwise quiet, well behaved (not that I did not say docile and obedient) inmate and start whaling on them on principle. Seasoned jail staff knows that situations like that result in a volatile inmate population, and things explode into a riot. I have seen that, too.

While I won't go so far as to say that all inmates who suffer injury at the hands of staff deserve it, I WILL say that all instances I have seen of that were 100% avoidable, and would usually have deescalated by the inmate simply shutting up and turning their heads instead of flipping out to gain favor with other inmates. Generally, this occurs in inmates who have NOT already done a stretch of time in chain gang; it comes from low level thuglets trying to make a name for themselves, and crying when John Q Law comes with a TASER and five jailers. Along with a video camera.

The bottom line is that most any jail you come across has some or most of the same problems you mentioned. Some to a lesser degree, some to a greater degree. The Sheriff walked into that. What he does with it is the measure of his performance.

I would like to say that I personally was not a JD fan until recently. I met and have talked in great length with him about our beautiful little town. I know now without fail he was the BEST man for the job. If only I had listen to the facts instead of the gossip. I know that when he was in office with Sheriff Paulk he along with an amazing team kept my family and myself safe.. Where is the K-9 unit? What's next The Drug Task Force? I fear for my children now more than ever. I will say it again, PAY ATTENTION to the FACTS, so that the next candidate to run will stand a fair chance. I personaly don't have anything against Prine as a person I just think he made a better State Trooper.

I can say some of the jailers are a sorry excuse for human beings. I wouldn't be shocked if they wasn't doing things they shouldn't be doing in there and out. One, I have have in mind is a sorry excuse for a person. Yep, When I found out John worked at the jail I laughed. Made, Prine should do more looking into a person's background before hiring them. I wouldn't hired John Zakar as my employee. I wouldn't be shocked as to what he would do.
