Valdese Amoco: Back when there were service stations
Meet Herb. Herb runs Valdese Amoco Service Station in the 1950s. "Runs" means he owns it, operates it and works 12 to 14 hours, six days a week, waiting on people.

Those were the good old days. If I'm not mistaken Herb run a recapping service also in one of the lower bays. I remember his race car, a very competitive 55 Chevrolet which ran at Antioch speedway. I remember the head mechanic was Bob Lambert, who also worked at Drexel furniture with my dad and the driver of the car was Arnold Lindsey. If we could only have some of those days back when everything was much simpler.
