This is actually from another poster from back in 2012 but it is very good info today. Now factor in the ten or so that have had to leave out there since this info came out (who knows how many more) and factor in the lawsuits that our county has and is facing. See ya at the polls in 2014 Jones!!!!!!

Turnover rate at Caldwell County Sheriffs Department...

1974-2002=38 positions + taxpayer costs =$608,000.00 dollars

2003-2006=22 positions + taxpayer costs =$550,000.00 dollars

2007-present=101 positions + taxpayer costs =$2,828,000.00 dollars

What do you think Caldwell County? At this rate, Jones will bankrupt the county.
No businesses will come here if you don't have quality law enforcement or a Sheriff that sucks up all the taxes so he and his buddies can retire and draw their paychecks.........
We need a new face and one that doesn't cheat the county they're sworn to protect.(Think about 2014!!!!!!!)
You will be seeing more numbers showing the lousy job Sheriff Jones has done and is doing, and the waste will make you sick.

My guess is this is just the tip of the iceberg. Any idea of out of court and in court settlements?

I'm wondering how many deputies got through training then left, then hiring all over again began. Uniforms, shoe's, costs and all the late model vehicles, upkeep and insurance just on the cars.

I agree 100%. It is just the tip at best. I would love to see what the amount is up to now as I would imagine it is astronomical for a department that size.

FLASH BANG you dead on target I'm afraid for taxpayers. I talked at lengths with some people in DC about the costs of new vehicle's here while in DC they've still got the older Ford Ltd's and Crown Victoria ...they couldn't believe a whole dept in small Appalachia town with so many vehicles, a department our size and how or who was paying the expense? Not saying the county shouldn't have a few of the newer cars, but, a BMW suv and non patrol or Leo staff driving new cars. Bottom line was always $$$$. How does this little town afford it? An occasional drug bust (near election time) but where is the support money coming from??? No property here is valuable until Google came. Our jail facilities are state of the art compared to many precincts around big cities. We're only on the map with Robert Glass and he's dead now, so the need for size and expense was mind boggling. We've been on the map with Broyhill exploding but that wasn't a terrorists attack. We've been on the map again with vote buying Clark but other than that, we're above the normal with high end cars and facilities. There's no high end organized crime or heist (yet) but I'm surprised considering everyone in the world knows our Sheriff's never here, he always out of town. Trust me several officers wanted to apply from a larger city and move here considering the conditions and area but the salary wasn't appealing. When you read about prisoners and jail conditions, I still picture the old jail behind the court house .....something is terribly wrong with a new jail with worse conditions of the old jail. Jail isn't and shouldn't be a country club experience, but really should this new facility have millions of problems?

Does anyone have new figures to support conditions with Jones since 2008? Since Clark is gone has additional prisoners broken out of our high end facility?

Well the last part of those figures are from 2007 to at least 2010 I think. I would love to see from 2010 to now as well. The amount they have spent on turnovers we could have bought a helicopter lol and its a wonder Jones hasn't bought one so they could fly to their parties in style. Jones would have used it to fly out of town to more "classes" aka vacations. The whole BMW SUV blew my mind when I saw it but then again it is Jones. Ben Griffin tried to save them some money and made them buy used Crown Vics with low mileage from other departments. Jones threw a baby tantrum like you wouldn't believe.

They were getting good used low mileage Crowns for less than ten grand sometimes but Jones wanted Chargers and new SUVs at well over thirty grand a piece. Dont get me started on the SWAT team toys and the 100k plus Ford van they blew money on.

You seen the new truck???? Its no shabby low riding 2wd to haul trash off in, its an expensive new one.$45-$50K at the least.

If 1 major organized crime unit ever hit Caldwell one Monday morning with a county wide bank heist, that Sheriff office wouldnt get 1 of those Tonka Toys cranked and the crime spree would have hit, left and the door wouldn't hit them in the ass on the way out. They would have left the state in minutes. The same amount of minutes it take tubby wubby BJ to grab his snacks and try to cooler it all to the car. Minutes ....gone. Long gone. They'd be in Miami by lunch and it would be late Tuesday before Jones could be found. This county is a sitting duck, its on this site viewable from around the world about our Sheriff never being around, how divided the county is now and the rest of the clique around the water cooler shows last night's conquests of wife swapping on phone video and photos of the swing party while these units strike and leave. G O N E. I wouldn't be surprised if people here didn't cheer these people on when they hit. We have 1 person to blame and we have to acquire the K9 unit to find him, the high and almighty Sheriff or No Show Jones. There will never be any need for those ridiculous Tonka Toys now or 20 years from now. What is the matter with this fool? Did he grow up so poor he must prove a point within the workplace? Best thing to do with the Tonka Toys, sell them to Mecklenburg County where Banking Giants reside. A place were sky scrapers sit on acres and acres. I don't think no one is eager to raid our empty furniture factories here for giant sized rats and dandelions. Charlotte has more need for that Equipment than this GI Joe wannab. What would Sheriff Goble, Moore and Benfield say about all the needless spending? Oh yeah, they wouldn't have hired or elected Jones. What has this guy cost us? Bottom line?$36 MILLION to start off????? I'd be hiding too if I were him or whatever it is he does. The needless spending is making more people disgusted with this money pit out on Morganton Blvd. People here don't feel safe. Its an over aged High School out there, not a law enforcement office. A middle aged pissing contest with this office. The heist is,hypothetical but point is, money wasted on a man too scared to come to work, a heist would back up my post. Has Jones ever fired a gun?

One thing we need to pay close attention to, is which other republican politicians come out in support of jones.. Of course their response after lance beats jones in the primary will be they had to support jones because he's the incumbent and they really wanted lance to win ,but the way I see it is if they support jones in the primary, then they support his actions and in my opinion they need to go as well.. Lance don't need their support after the primary because the election is won at that point and hopefully lance will remember this.. If they other politicians support jones, then they are no better than he is..btw, jones is not making all the settlements and cover ups by himself, other in authority in the county must know details as well, I only wonder who??

They can do the right thing or they can continue to look out for their own self serving interest. I will warn them though if they wait until they see Lance is unstoppable it will be too late and they will have written their own ticket out the door. I have very little hope for the spineless members of the party and our current jelly fish commissioners.

I actually meant to post this here but it works just as good on the other thread. To answer the other question of who, it has to be the county manager.

Yeah the total cost of the E450 van after they finished putting all kinds of useless crap on and in it was over 100k. They had an ambulance that served the purpose for what they used it for, not like a van was anymore bullet proof or indestructible than an ambulance, just looks cooler I guess. As long as it usually took those dipwads to get ready any crime would have long been over anyways, God forbid they needed SWAT on a Friday or Saturday night as it would be the next day before they could sober up enough to make it in. You can bet if any hypothetical scenario like you described happened under Jones it would be a total disaster and wheres waldo Jones would suddenly be out of town. His deputies get shot and killed where is he at... out of town. Does he rush back?, nope. Could he even tell you who all was there?, nope.

How freaking stupid for a van! What's it tor touring and singing around the State? Cruising town? Every time people see another new vehicle and $3500 graphics jobs, the MORE DISGUSTED PEOPLE ARE WITH HIS FRIVOLOUS SPENDING. People are doing without food to buy meds and he's spending money like it's going out of style.

Keep feeding that rope. The newspaper story on ALL tricked out new cars out there will be featured alone will seal his fate. People are so tired of the scandals, sex, drinking and nonstop shame.$$$$$$$ His day is coming, the sooner the better.

Hey Icey I will give you another example of his waste. When Ben made the Sheriff buy used cars to save money they only came with standard hub caps, the kind that just cover the lug nuts like most police departments use all over the country. Well Jones said they looked ugly so he made the garage order factory Ford wheel covers that cost several hundred dollars a set for each car.

Captain Longo didn't like the fact that his Explorer was painted white. He thought black looked a lot cooler since he was in SWAT he should have a bad A looking ride. He had the county pay for a paint job just so his explorer could look all black and cool lol.

Are you flipping kidding? This sounds like a weekend father trying to buy the love and affection of his children who just made the football team in high school. Honest to God that's what it sounds like. How petty and pathetic?? I know when I went to Arlington and DC to talk to some guys, all the Homeland Security cars were the old Crowns and LTD'S and a couple of Taurus the big bird model....those guys couldn't believe the expensive automobiles this little town of nothing had in its possession. Where's the money coming from to pay extra gas milage with factory wheels, insurance?

Hey, was there an 18 wheeler or two that ran off Highway 18 and drifted across the field into the parking lot of the Sheriff Office and caused a complete pileup of every car? A TOTAL LOSS to every car owned by the department? Did I miss that event???

Poetry Ghost Deputy. Where is Longo and "his" black suv now? Makes me want to jump in my car, drive to the Sheriff office and put a rose on the hood of Longo 's suv. LONGO is Longgone.

Wonder if Longo still visits Jones every other weekend since he's been kicked off the team?(Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Pure poetry Ghost. LONGO is now Long Gone. I must go by the Sheriff Office and leave a rose on the Black Suv in memory of Longo since he's disappointed his "DADDY " and is no longer on the team.

Hey, wonder if Longo still visits Daddy every other weekend?(Sorry, couldn't resist)
