Not that I care one way or another who is on this podunk towns council and obviously most of Lenoir didn't this last election either but I find something disturbing about all this. The first thing is who cares what color someone is that is elected, why is this even an issue? I could see it being some sort of victory lets say in the 60's... but today? This is in itself a form of racism by even making a big deal over a candidates skin color.

This brings me to my other issue, the rampant racism in the black community. If the city council race was such an important issue in the black community then they would have been taking part in local government for years now.. if it really mattered to them. The fact is most of the voters were obviously black and it was a concerted effort by the black community to elect their candidate... so where have they been all these years, why have they not made an effort to "fix their community" or "give themselves a voice" until now. Why is their voice any different than any other citizens voice? Now who is making race an issue and drawing dividing lines?

Fact of the matter is if you are black and you went to the polls to vote for a black candidate simply because he or she is black then you need a white hood and cross because you are the same thing as any other racist. You can call it overcoming, rising above or whatever you need to make you feel good but fact is if you see yourself as different and abuse democracy on the basis of race then you are no different than the whites that did it 50 years and more ago.

Lenoir HAS go change. Everything that the old timers did such as furniture and textiles is gone. There is nothing to control. Yes, the outsiders, who might have money and power are terrifying to the stuck in the mud leaders of yesterday. Who would you actually call "rich" for this area.
