A nice large lot once existing on Piedmont Drive in Lenoir now has 4 houses crammed onto them. To boot, one person moving in is an attorney to be and drives a NEW Volvo SUV. Hmmm. So many people losing their homes who cannot get help. Piedmont Drive in a 50 yard stretch of roadway has 7 houses crammed onto the street. So many empty Lower Creek and Fairview Drive lots, enough has been crammed onto Piedmont. Drive by and look at this disgrace. Also notice the new Volvo SUV parked on the corner of the newest completed home. I just do not understand Habitat of Caldwell County. But then again, its Caldwell ....

Your last sentence says it all, it's Caldwell "corruption" County. Explains everything ..

wowwww I like your sentence - Caldwell Corruption County.

Lower Creek, Abingdon Road, Gamewell so many empty areas. Empty old 321A in Granite Falls with acres of empty land for homes and Piedmont Drive is crammed with 7 houses within feet of the other. Then you have so many losing their homes - and Habitat gives homes to apparently those who do not need them. What it does to the property owners of that area, lowered the value on everything by $20K. So now your property retail value is -$8,000 (negative value)and that is with your home sitting on it. Our lovely county at work. Its not all glitz and glamour the workers are making the new neighbors out to be -after the Administrators of Habitat are gone, Piedmont residents have to live with this.

So you think they should get a house with an acre of land too??? They are buying houses for a fraction if what they are worth, so what if it's on a small parcel of land..... give people an inch, they want an acre....

I just have a bad opinion of the whole Habitat idea because of someone I know who received a home. She is a single mother but her parents have raised her child. I would feel safe in saying that the child has not spent two months worth of time in that house. The home has been used as a drunk pad for all the local losers and people who can lay drunk and do drugs but they can't hold down jobs.. Most are on disability.. lazy drunk druggies who suck my tax dollars to live off me .. and most of you! I don't know any of the families who will be living in the Piedmont Drive homes but a few bad apples make the whole barrel look bad .. I just know personally that the woman who got the home I am speaking of certainly does not deserve it. I don't care how many boards she carried (was required to help on other Habitat homes). That money could have and should have been spent elsewhere or at least given to a deserving, hard working family. This woman has not worked in eighteen plus years so I am not sure how she makes her payment other than welfare. I work hard. She could too but welfare has become a way of life for many.

Your statement is a perfect example to these people of Habitat trying to convince overloaded neighborhoods that their new neighbors rank up there with The Pope. I want a free masters degree in law, a free home so my auto will be a luxury. VOLVO SUV. lets see how you feel if your neighboring lot once contained 1 home and now contains 4. Yes, they are built to attract slum.

Piedmont Drive?
What's the big deal?
That's nothing but a slum to start with.

That area is a slum and that's a good place for them, who cares. Cuts down on police fuel expenses to have them all in place.

I too know a person that got a Habitat house, the man refused raises, wife worked and was payed cash and no tax records for her. Went to church every Sunday but still took advantage of the public.

There are 2 more going onto that lot than mentioned. Its a shame those who try cannot get a home or even assistance but those who do not need it, get it 10 fold. But why cram 6 houses onto a lot that once housed only 1 home? Last I checked this wasn't Summit Apts? You can see the I don't care responses on here by many of our own deputies and leo, they do not care how this area looks so why would anyone else? It isn't the nice area of 1950 anymore, its what Piedmont Apts and West End and the lack of immigration made the area. A has been. It would be nice to see our Habitat place homes where they're needed not where crammed into. And a family that is trying to obtain a home, but I do let my dreams get the better of me, I forget this is Caldwell County, not reality. If you HAD property here, you may consider it 3rd World Housing. Maybe lease the property as a crack home, bet you will have better luck than Section 8.

You do know that those houses aren't free, don't you? They don't "give" them to anyone.

As far as Piedmont Drive being a "slum," Well any neighborhood becomes trashy when people quit caring about their surroundings and what their places look like.. I see trash lining the sides of the road on Piedmont Drive and it makes me sick at how lazy people are... fast food bags.. beer and drink cans and bottles.. cigarette boxes.. It makes me sick to look at it.. If the Piedmont area is a slum it is because the people around there could care less if it is portrayed that way.. so whatever. And I guarantee that if a few people got out and picked up the trash it would be right back there in a matter of days. When I was young there was an older man that had property near my home at the time... he was well known for NOT wanting or allowing anyone on his property which was walking trails with ponds etc. I remember well him saying that "people are pigs" and I know now what he meant.

Not all people who live on Piedmont Drive are on welfare and are trash. Many residents of Piedmont Drive care about their homes and their community. Piedmont Drive has many nice working middle class families living on this road and they take pride in their homes. Don't judge everyone by where they live they should be judged on what type of person they are and how they treat others. People can't help if their neighbors are trashy and lazy. Maybe if people would quit talking about other people on this forum and actually go out and pick up trash around their neighborhood-Piedmont Drive could look alot cleaner and nicer.

I DO live on Piedmont Drive.. I work every day and do not need any type of help.. The point of my post was to say that people do not care ... Go ahead and go out there and pick the trash up.. it will be back by the evening.. Waste of time because people who do that do not care and will continue to do it.. I take much pride in my home, my yard, etc... But I refuse to get out there and pick up the garbage that other people are too lazy to carry in the house and throw away...

There is an application process and each applicant is required to be employeed for a minimum of one year before even applying. Applicants are also required to help build other homes and are responsible for paying their own bills just like everyone else.

Don't be mad because they found another way to provide a home for their families instead of running to the bank & taking out loans they can never repay like most of you "middle class" workers on here bragging bout how hard you work to pay for a house that you will never own because you couldn't afford it in the first place.

Thats the true reason homevalues dropped, not because of income housing, but rather due to all th "middle class" home owners getting loans they couldn't honor.

Maybe you guys should work smarter not harder, get out of 1950 and into now.

By the way I would never want to live on or near peidmont or old north rd. Everything up & down creek way is garbage
