Working as a medic in Caldwell County is tough. We never know if our truck will make it to the next call, nor do we know who we will be working with from shift to shift. I am asking for your support in helping the medics of Caldwell County. We are under staffed. It seems our EMS Chief is more into responding to fire calls over helping us run medical calls. The next time you see our chief take a good look at his new vehicle and then look at our ambulances. As we live and work from a mold infested building that leaks water daily, our management staff works in a completely new building at Health and DSS. Just stop by any of our bases and look around. Please help us help you. Medics in need.

It is the same way with sheriffs vehicles . Patrol gets second hand NYPD cars, command gets brand new blinged out $50,000 trucks to drive back and forth to work. Remember sheriffs nice BMW SUV while patrols complaining they can't even get a full set if new tires. Emergency response, medics and patrol should get the new vehicles and command get the hand me downs since they do not respond to time critical calls. Bad thing is voters don't see the problems we have in the caldwell on issues like this. Lance made it clear patrol vehicles will be top priority and command and non emergency will drive the retired patrol units as long as possible . Just like he told us promotions will be on merit not political reasons. And before anyone starts, he has no intention of clearing house at all, only the ones not doing their job properly.

The only intentions Wilson has is sitting around with his finger up his ass doing whatever JJ tells him to do. He's a damn scale jockey for NCSHP. If he could think for himself with the time he has been in law enforcement he wouldn't be weighing trucks he would be in an administrative position. When he "debates" Jones it will be clear to everyone just how slow-witted he is. When he refuses to answer questions about his administrative choices and he will be asked everyone will then know that he is expecting them to vote for a "pig in a poke" and that's not going to happen.

Yeah dont vote for a pig in a poke like Wilson when you can vote for a sure fire proven retard like Jones. With Jones you dont have to guess who his command staff is, you already know its the worst collection of moronic inept, completely clueless rejects from other agencies that couldn't get a job anywhere else if their life depended on it. You also have the added benefit of knowing that if anything happens, Jones will run out of town and call the Sheriff from the next county over. I guess that's a good thing because at least he cant screw it up any worse when he isn't here. Oh and dont forget, Jones issued gun permits. I mean it may be his job to do that but lol we all know that's asking a lot of CCSO to do their jobs.

Also I might add that we know already how good Jones and his detectives are. Look how fast they detected JJ was going to be on Wilson's command staff lol (sarcasm). They seen JJ at a meet and greet during their "covert super undercover recon missions" now they have it all figured out. Too bad they cant find a dead body in a truck box or anyone's property over the past several years but good going sherlocks.

Hey Wow, question? When Jones finally climbs out of his hole to debate Wilson, do we need to supply the KY so BJ can get his whole hand up puppet Jones butt or will you bring that? Also will we need and extended podium or will Barlowe release from the front of Jones long enough for the debate to take place.

As a co-worker of yours I have to strongly disagree. I feel, as well as most others that Caldwell County EMS is in the best position it has been in many years. Regarding the trucks, you cannot blame the current Division Chief for mistakes made during previous administrations and previous Commissioners. It was not the current Division Chief’s idea to buy used ambulances, many with well over 100,000 miles. Since he has been in his current position, a new ambulance has been ordered and will be here within a few weeks. When we do have issues with trucks they immediately go into the garage to be fixed. The ride in these old units may not be the best, but I never worry about them “getting me to the next call”. All units are now on a replacement plan. The Chief’s vehicle is no different. The small amount of money that goes into making a QRV wouldn’t put a dent in what it takes to put us in a new ambulance. As far as the staffing issues are concerned, the last time I looked at the roster we were fully staffed. A person being out due to work related injury doesn’t make you understaffed. Lastly, administration moving out of Lenoir Base and into the DSS building is just one of the first steps in removing everyone out of Lenoir Base. They know we have issues with the building and are working to remove us from there. It is also much easier to find office space than it is to find a place with bedrooms for staff, living area, and bay doors for units. I have no problems at all with any of the issues you have raised and frankly I am furious that you would take such topics to a public forum as this. I honestly do not think you are a co-worker though. I didn’t know we had any employees living in Myrtle Beach. Maybe you’re just a disgruntled previous EMS Director that owns a beach property, and are not happy knowing that EMS is in a much better place than it ever was with you.

According to you then problems are just the lingering effects of prior administration, which makes perfect sense. If vehicles are on a replacement schedule that is the only way to address the problem considering it is not possible to replace the fleet at once. Of course the publics safety is priority number one. We all know the high turn over rate and low experience level of the sheriffs dept, do you feel this is the case with EMS? Are turnover rates within reason? Is EMS employee morale at normal levels and lastly is the general base of EMS united and not divided as with the sheriffs dept. Reason I ask, the sign of a good leader is not just the vehicles the dept is forced to drive but a good morale and low turnover rates a signs of good leadership. Actually in most counties the vehicle purchases are handled by commissioners not dept heads.

Look you've got about 10 or more Sheriff threads> Take your petty BS to one of them and stay the hell off the EMS threads. We have other things to worry about than the daily drama of a bunch of wannabes. Capiche???

Capiche? lol Ok Scare face. Fact is no one gives a damn or wants to here about the usual EMS BS that's been going on for the past decade or more. Maybe when caldwell ems can actually function as a respectable ems system and not have Dr. McClinton slap your wrist every other day someone might take you serious. Maybe she will actually trust you to carry some actual drugs on the truck. Better hurry before the FD's figure out they dont need you like they did LRS. I would rather hear about the craptastic sheriffs office BS than ems, that's a lost cause.

That was the point I was trying to make. Over all morale is high and turnover is low. As a citizen I have never had anything but a positive view of the local EMS when friends or family required assistance. I feel they do an excellent job. The condition of vehicles or the base pay rates are issues to be addressed before the board of commissioners, where they originate from. Keep up the good work EMS employees , your community image and reputation is strong

Another upset Jones flunky I see. EMS command and employees provide the excellent services at a quality level that Jones only wishes his dept could operate at. Good job EMS and thank you from the citizens for all the hard work.

Don't even worry about it. As you can see we have more than a few trolls on here just like on the other Sheriffs threads. EMS does a fine job and they have some great leadership. All the things you originally said are well thought out and factual information.

Former Caldwell County Emergency Management Services director apologized in court Monday to a former employee for nearly five years of racial slurs he made at work.
Tommy Courtner's apology to Gail Colbert came in a hearing in Wilkes Superior Court where attorneys for Colbert and Courtner, who currently is chief of the Hudson Fire Department, said they had reached a settlement in the lawsuit filed by Colbert in January 2013 that alleged severe emotional distress as a result of Courtner's actions. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
"Gail, we worked together for a long time," Courtner said, reading a six-sentence apology. "I regret that our relationship deteriorated. I am certainly sorry for all the things I said or did that caused you embarrassment, harm or offense. It was never my intentions for this to happen. I understand that racial remarks are not appropriate for a workplace. I apologize for the pain it caused you, and hope that you can forgive me."
In a phone interview Monday afternoon, Courtner said that the terms of the settlement prohibit him from commenting on the case. In the initial response his attorneys filed to the lawsuit, Courtner denied intending to harass or intimidate Colbert.
Courtner said Caldwell County's insurance will pay for the settlement and the legal fees.
The suit alleged that Courtner made disparaging and racist remarks to Colbert from the time he became her supervisor in 2006 until he resigned as EMS director on Jan 26, 2011.
Many of the allegations were corroborated by witnesses in affidavits. One employee, Ricky Brown, stated, "I would hear Tommy from time to time making comments to Gail about monkeys and bananas, and he would turn out the light in her office and yell (for) Gail to smile 'so I can see where you're at.'"
Another employee, Kenneth Teague, said in an affidavit that Courtner referred to black people by the common racial epithet that starts with N and had referred to Colbert as "monkey." Another, Heather Greene, said Courtner would call her "spook."
One employee, Syretha Richards, wrote, "If Gail was ever eating a banana in her office, he would always laugh and make monkey comments. At one time he took a picture of her eating a banana and he printed it and hung it up and laughed about it." The employee also wrote, "I read an e-mail that was sent to Gail from Tommy that talked about a stimulus package of fried chicken and watermelon."
In 2012 Courtner ran for a seat on the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners. Terrified that he might once again be placed in a position of authority over her, Colbert circulated a letter detailing her allegations of abuse, the suit said, and Courtner responded by filing a complaint with the State Board of Elections. The state board's investigation against Colbert was terminated, according to the suit, after the board received sworn statements from a number of individuals attesting to Courtner's remarks being similar or identical to those included in the letter.
Colbert, who now lives in Wilkes County and still works for Caldwell County, declined to comment on the case.
Colbert's attorney, Dudley Witt, spoke briefly about the case afterward.
"Ms. Colbert's thankful that there's been an apology," Witt said. "She's accepted it, and she's hopeful to move on from this very unfortunate portion of her life."
Attorneys have 15 days to file for a dismissal of the civil suit.
