I'm definitely all heart. I don't see a point in wasting time talking about a politician many, many months after she's been shot. She is alive. I don't see us talking about the soldiers that died in Iraq and Afghanistan who definitely served a better purpose than this lady. I'm a little tired of the, "Gabby got shot and if we had gun control, she wouldn't have been shot". It possibly could be good to reduce all numbers including mine, but then who would defend your ability to defend poor little Gabby on the forum? Simple minds think much better and clearer than stupid minds. Thank you stupidton.

With respect to reducing the number by you, I'm willing to risk it.

Gabby and spaceball both need to go away. As usual with the standard liberal, socialist, knee jerk reactions to everything, ban all guns and maybe I wouldn't have been shot. But you will note that it's do as I say and not as I do. How may pictures are there out there of either her or him with weapons in their hands. Of course that was only so she could suck up a few votes.I for one don't give two figs if she was shot, shit happens,it was her turn!

To now how we are crossing the bounds into a fascist state, I saw a headline where they even named a NAVY SHIP AFTER HER. If true what a travesty. Trample on men who do heroic deeds for this.

Let me guess. "We need to institute gun control to make this a safer place to live?". Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Let's ban cars, more people die in car wrecks than from guns yearly. Let's ban planes, they kill people. Let's ban religion and politics, more people have died historically for these two causes. At what point do you just hold people accountable for their individual actions. Let's ban drugs, they kill people. I have no pitty for this lady that you defend so much. She signed up for a job that has the potential for danger. She has had access to many perks in exchange. Politicians benefit quite a bit from being in politics. Poor Gabby? BS! Gabby benefited quite a bit. Do I condone the behavior of the idiot that shot this lady? Of course not. We need to be responsible owners of guns. We will not fix anything by controlling guns. The black market is huge.

I believe that the country was built by more people like me than the "save the whales, ban the guns types". Maybe we need to ban stupidity. As for pricks, you know what u can do with them.

Someone name the good things this woman did to deserve a ship being named after her. The only memorable thing that comes to mind is getting shot. The country should not disrespect people who made contributions of their lives for this target.

Gabby Gifford survived an assassination attempt, shot at point-blank range while in the service of her country. As a United States Representative is it their duty to meet constituents (always better in person) and talk to them about what is of concern, and even discuss what is happening in Congress. Remember: a representative represents his/her constituents. Some hold town hall meetings, my representative holds workshops on different issues, Gabby had a “Congress on your corner” event.

I somehow don’t think Loughner would have shot her had she not been a US Representative.

As to what memorable things did she do: she performed the duties of her job with integrity.

Whether she “deserves” a ship named after her .... that decision was not yours to make. Obviously those involved in the decision-making thought otherwise.

Name the important things that she accomplished. I didn't see those. Getting shot is not an important accomplishment. Holding congress on your corner is not an important accomplshment. Specifically, how did she improve AZ? Still nearly last in education. Not anywhere near the middle on industry and jobs. What did she do aside of get shit and pretend to listen to you? I don't rightly care about the ship, although, she does not deserve a place next to Nimitz, Kennedy and others. Reagrdless, the attitude of control guns cause guns kill is ridiculous. We don't need more laws, we simply need to hold people accountable for their actions. I honestly could care less about how many politicians are erased from the map. Not one of these crooks deserves respect. Reference the state of the country. 16T debt and growing. Unemployment through the roof. Medical costs out of control. Social security out of control. Education in the toilet. Foreign relations in trouble. Wars looming in iran and north korea. And much more. Not one of these people serves a good use.

Anti-gunners,

There is no need for an assault weapons ban. You can ban all legal guns and criminals will continue to get guns. Typically, criminals don't go down to the local gun shop and say, "I'd like a 12 gage autoloader, an AR-15 and a Mac-10, I plan to kill someone". That only happened on the Terminator.

A couple of point for those against gun ownership. If you don't believe in gun ownership, you don't have to own any. Next, keep in mind that the only reason the govt is not telling you when you can go to the bathroom, how many kids you can have or when you can have sex or go on vacation is that we (USA) have the largest standing army in the world. I am not referring to the military, but to the citizens that own guns. That is one of the many reasons why you can sit behind your keyborad and say, "let's ban guns, Gabby would have never been shot if there were no guns". As to what kind of gun a person can own. That should only be determined by what that person can afford. Next point, the govt makes a boatload of money off domestic and foreign arms and ammunition sales, why in the world would they stop making the cash in the name of Gabby. Yes, a big portion of the gun sale is tax to the govt.

There will always be bad people in the world. No number of laws or good thoughts will change that. You don't need to own guns if you don't like them. While that rapist or killer is taking advantage of your family, you can be on the phone with the cops. They will gladly show up to make a report and execute the law. My preference is to be able to defend my family. Two different mindsets. Not one is wrong. Yours is only wrong in my eyes in that I don't see how you would stand by and watch as your child, husband, wife or other loved one was violated by someone and you standing there helplessly.

Once again your correct. IMO, Gabby and Spaceball are only lining their pockets, feeding their ego's and looking for another 15 min. on the tube or in the press.

How do you measure the worth of a human being? A single great act, or by smaller less grandiose acts?
You mentioned that AZ lags behind the rest of the nation in education. That would be under the auspices of the state and local governments, not federal. Employment or jobs can also be tied in to state government. The governor of my state has taken full credit for the decline in the joblessness rate and a spurt in new jobs. He never once mentioned the federal government as having been a factor in the improved economic life of the state.

Since I am not a resident of AZ, I do not know first-hand the scoop of her accomplishments while serving in Congress. I do know that she had sponsored a bill the Ultralight Aircraft Smuggling Prevention Act of 2012, which gives law enforcement broader authority to counter illicit drug trafficking on US borders. Not a bill that will cure cancer, or fix the economy, or bring about world peace, but she tried her best.

As to the ship that was named after her, well it is nowhere near the class of a Nimitz or a Kennedy. From what I read:
The littoral combat ship is a class of relatively small surface vessels intended for operations in the littoral zone by the United States Navy. It was "envisioned to be a networked, agile, stealthy surface combatant capable of defeating anti-access and asymmetric threats in the littorals."
The other two ships that were commissioned before the one that was named after her were called Independence and Freedom. Not very creative names, overused really.

Being a Navy wife herself and taking an active interest in the spouses and children of military personnel, especially the Navy, maybe this was their way of thanking her.
With as many ships as the US navy has, there are enough names to go around.

So, what 1 great feat did gabby accomplish? The guys who died in irag and afghanistan were working more tactical goals. They were fighting a war in the name of freedom, regarless of the true intent. How do you recognize them? How come we are not talking about these great people? Cause they were doing little things? Really? So, I agree with you, in that a man is measured by his actions. What did gabby do other than get shot?

As for the ultralight bill, you really believe that we have any intent on stopping smuggling of drugs? There are too many jobs and too much money in play. Lgealize drugs and you have to find jobs for all customs, much of fbi, cops, rehab centers, prison guards, prison, and much, much more.

You gotta give me more than this. This is hardly an accomplishment.

The argument that "gabby got shot and served her country ..." Is a bs argument. She is not special. We shouldn't even be talking about her.

Gun control will not fix a thing. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Get rid of guns and other tools will exist.
