This happened just as I was getting on to West 80 this morning at Alamo. It was not pretty.

Passing on the shoulder huh? That's brilliant! I bet from now on he doesn't do something that stupid. Now if only something could be done about motorcyclists that do the same along with passing in between vehicles at normal speed.

I was right in front of the guy in the Toyota this morning and I don't think he was trying to pass me on the shoulder. Right before I heard his tires screeching I heard a loud pop, like his tire blew out. He barely missed my bumper before going off onto the shoulder and then his car went straight back into traffic and that's when he got hit by the semi. I don't know how the guy was driving before he almost hit me but from everything I saw, it didn't look like he was trying to pass on the shoulder! It looked more like he was trying to avoid hitting me!

The scary thing is that while I was stuck in traffic waiting because of the this accident about 20 people thought it would be "fun" to drive on the shoulder of the road to get where they needed to go. Maybe Solano County should teach a mandatory "how to be patient in traffic" course. The people trying to avoid waiting on 80 were ridiculous!

I recommend contacting the CHP first.

I have been trying to call CHP all day! Everytime I called it would just ring and I would get a recording telling me all operators were busy and then it would start ringing and no answer. If anybody knows a good number to get a hold of them, I would appreciate it! I did tell the 911 operator this morning when I called in the accident.

I hope the guy was not DUI or passing on the shoulder...thanks to the accident, I missed my Grandmother's funeral. Frustrating if the accident could have been easily avoided.

Attempting to pass on the shoulder (alledgedly) is not a mistake, it's illegal.
