Taxis yes, but can we also eliminate an equal amount of funding from City Coach since they run around empty anyway?

Let's see, 15% of $60 =$9 one way. That comes to about $20 round trip, if you believe them. How many seniors can really afford to pay $20 for paratransit? How does that compare to what it costs them now? All we hear about is how much it will cost the govt. But if no one uses it, what's the point?

It's a little more than that, actually. The $60 is the paratransit program's cost, not including the co-pay. Expensive, yes, but a heck of a lot better than having to pay the full price. |

Worth investigating.
Let's not turn this excitement into another expensive program that saps needed funds for higher priorities serving the majority in a community. We have an existing program now, that cost plenty! If you're are poor or have a disability, we do go out of our way to make you life easier and less expensive, via taxpayer or funding by the employed, but there has to be a reasonable limit. Fraud cost us all. I listen to a radio scanner and have both the Vacaville and Fairfield bus transportation frequencies for radio communications. Vacaville and Fairfield bend over backwards and forwards to accommodate users of their systems. They even advise when there is a transfer and adjustments are made. It's usually the rider that causes delays for one reason or the other... attempting to use the bus system as a taxi system. Taxi service would make for a more exacting service, if enough cabs are available. It is a lot cheaper to use a taxi, instead of a bus. If taxi service is implemented, then the bus service should be adjusted accordingly. Stop spending like a Democrat! Investigate all angles honestly. Keep the size of programs limited and reasonable. Users have a responsibility and a civic duty to make these programs perform as intended. Side note: Vacaville drivers are more professional with their radio communications then are the some of the Fairfield drivers who complain often about small details (equipment, routes, etc.). Why is that? Drivers ought to appreciate that they are employed and not a user of the system. |

Made me think of growing up in San Francisco back in the day. They had jitney service back then and it was pretty neat as I remember it. We should bring that type of service back to life. Riding in a car with strangers can be pretty nice - at least back in the day when people were more civil than they are today!

Why do we need to build a new facility for this?
There must be buildings with adequate land to accomodate this purpose for less money...much less. |
