This news makes me really mad. My husband and I were planning on starting a family around when this new Vacaville Kaiser Hospital would be opening. We knew we wanted to start trying last year or this year and decided we would plan it on when the Kaiser in Vacaville would open. This way we could be close to home and in a new facility. I'm really upset and I am thinking about transferring from Kaiser to my husbands medical and just go to another hospital.:( I even know a few people who transferred their medical to Kaiser because of this new Hospital opening and I know now they are going to be very upset too! How do you post a big sign off the freeway saying you’re going to open April of 2009 and then completely change the date to the following year? Unfair!

And I know of at least one Labor Group that terminated it's contract with Kaiser because of escalating premiums - taking 20K members with it!

Truth be known of the motive from Kaiser, this non-profit HMO is banking on some money incentives from the new President. Give us the incentives President Obama and we (Kaiser) will open more hospitals and take care of everybody. Our current members, they will just have to tighten their belts (patriotism - spread the wealth), pay more and wait longer to see any doctors.

Kaiser What a Joke ? Healthy Family ! No Kaiser First and how much more can we charge these Senior Advantage Customers ? Let's have them drive to Vallejo that real safe city, with bad parking, more ambulance ER time, great let them die they are old people only ! solano county has Vacca Valley hospital, North Bay, they will save a life, help the seniors, but Kaiser, well just wait, maybe if you wait long enough you will just expire and die ! Good Medicine, we will save money and help Social Security Medicare by the delay of this Hospital ! GREAT HEALTH CARE ! My VET CARES MORE THEN KAISER !

Unfair! Be happy you got health coverage. Unfair is to the people that work probaly just as hard as you do, maybe even harder and they have no health coverage. Give credit to Kaiser that they are not laying off empolyees due to this delay. There are so many other Health Cares laying off employees. Also you can never plan a family around when a hospital opens LOL!!!

Its simply the economy. It costs a lot of money to open and run a hospital. Read the papers -- Kaiser just lost millions and is looking to rein in costs. Not everything has to be a big conspiracy tied to Obama, the Feds, welfare, and whatever else you folks think are after you.
Kaiser will open when it fiscally makes sense.

Guess what Right Wingnut, I was looking forward to the same benefit.... the other option is Vallejo for Kaiser clients, Nothing like getting killed in a driveby going to the ER!

As for it being TMI, go read a National Geographic

We are interested in talking with those concerned about the new Kaiser on hold. If you would like to talk with us, you contact our news desk at KCRA. I can't post the number, but you can find it online or in the phonebook. Thanks.

Kaiser built the Vallejo new hospital tower to comply with Senate Bill 1953 that requires all acute healthcare facilities to be compliant with all California seismic codes. There have been deadlines from the State that have been moved up from 2003 to 2014 to finish this work. The change of deadlines gives you an idea on how hard it is for Kaiser and all other California health care providers to maintain cashflow to fund both operations and essential new construction. This latest delay for opening the Vallejo hospital tower and the Vacaville facility is just another bump in the road that was caused by the loss of revenue because of the recession and investments that were busted up by the economic crisis...(and maybe Bernie Madoff??). It costs real big money to run these facilities and Kaiser is just taking prudent measures not to let the whole "ship" sink during this recession. I advise patience till everything rights itself in the economy and cashflow resumes for Kaiser to operate these big new facilities PROPERLY. They have already set a delayed opening date for late 2009/early 2010. Let's hope that they can indeed open up these facilities at that time.
