Verbose. Less is more. School administrators are God-like. Teachers are unionistas.
The long article about Aycock's employment with Rim of the World school was welcome by me because I had heard he'd gotten the evil eye at that school and left to come here. The article confirmed what I'd heard. Good to know. Here's history repeating itself.

What does the public do when the School District Office Administrators make decisions that are approved by the School Board and the public does not like those decisions? What recourse do we have?
None. By the time we vote in a new School Board, it's years gone bad.
Agreed.

When the school board voted in YRE at every school, the town got in an uproar. They gathered enough signatures to get the matter on the ballot and voted it out by a margin of 2:1. The same method could be used to implement a recall if the voters are angry enough.

We could get school closures on the ballot for a special election? The school district moves so fast on the closures, it seems unlikely that the public could prevent it. It's a budget matter, correct? How can the public weigh in on things like that?

I'd like to see fewer administrators (vice-principals) in our schools. Hey, we can't vote on everything even if we wish we could.

Recalling the School Board won't get rid of John Aycock. He has a contract and unless he breaks his contract by doing something illegal, he is the head administrator of VUSD. If parents of students at Hemlock and Sierra Vista Elementary schools can't accept the idea of their children's schools closing, they need to suggest other ways that the school district can save money and live within the budget.

Ok, I'd vote to pay him off and show him the door. No reason to cry over spilled milk. Granny this is about my money, my kids, my community. You might be resigned but I am not. Change happens.

Aycock may think that closing two more schools is the way to live within the budget.???

<quoted text>Get your facts straight. Fairmont didn't qualify for charter school funding status, therefore, it had to apply for funding like all other traditional schools. While it is NOT a charter school, the Fairmont principal however sought approval last summer from the scoo board to "convert" the school to charter status but was denied by the board. The two issues (charter and construction funding) are separate items that the letter writer mixed together. School closure? Not Superintendent Aycock's authority to do so. The decision rests with the scoo board and the scoo board only. Now with several new scoo board members elected yesterday, maybe the district will rethink the need to close any schools.
Perhaps YOU should double check your facts. Fairmont CHARTER is listed as a charter school on both the CA Charter Schools Association (www.myschool.org ) and CA Department of Ed's website (http://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/si/cs/ap/rptresult.a... ). It's status shows ACTIVE and was the 0913 charter school formed in the state of CA. The fact that they didn't qualify for the facility funding is irrelevent if they unethically went about applying for it in the first place.

It will only stay a Charter School for 1 year, I was told this by our school leaders, who is fooling who? That is why it does not say CHARTER on the front of the building. And Charter is only in name. Most people including the staff know its not a CHARTER SCHOOL.

Ryane is correct, Fairmont is not a charter school. I work for VUSD and I am telling you it is not a charter school. I have forwarded your comments to Leigh Coope, Facilities Director for VUSD regarding this charter status. However, this issue was brought to the school board last spring and the board voted 7-0 against changing it's status to charter (which was requested by the school principal). I'm not doubting the information you have provided, only stating that it is incorrect. Go on line to the district's website. You will not find any information regarding charter status at this school.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
