Good. Close the skoos and consolidate resources. Dwindling student population make this move necessary and is a responsible thing to do.

Parents dislike change. That's just the way it is.

WHAT? HUH? The school district obtained funds to build a new school at Fairmont using false information, saying it was a CHARTER SCHOOL... and it is NOT a charter school?

OH my GOSH! Now what? Will the State come and take the school back? Isn't somebody going to get in big trouble?

Sorry to hear about Hemlock and Sierra Vista because now other nearby schools will be overcrowded. Orchard parents are going to have a fit and I don't blame them.

Gee, maybe THE REPORTER could look into this as a community service...nah.

The Reporter is known to support the schools, so I doubt if they'll take on the issue of the Fairmont Fake Charter School. But somebody should. For sure.

That's my point. THE REPORTER won't rock the boat at VUSD with tough probing questions.

I've heard from parents that some schools have 3 vice principals. I had never heard of that. Is that the "norm" these days. My opinion is that going back to one, would be a good place to start saving money. Maybe I'm old school, but so many of the positions are duplicated, and for what purpose?

Uh, if you have consolidated 3 schools, and now have a school with 1000 kids, 900 of whom are discipline problems, you need at least 3 vice principals.

John Aycock is the biggest idiot I have ever met! At my son's 7th grade orientation, all I could see were teachers rolling their eyes at the things he said in front of all these kids. The teachers were cringing, and I as a parent was completely appalled. How did he get this job, and how can we get him out?!

A friend whose brother lives at Lake Tahoe City told me that Aycock was Superintendent of School at Lake Tahoe City at one time. How did he come here? He left Tahoe City for some reason... maybe we can research it??

From what I've recently heard Mr Aycock is going to be retiring soon. Sounds to me like he's trying to get his mess in order, so when the new( and hopefully well managed) Superintendent takes the reins, they wont be in for such a big surprise at all this missing funding. For all of you who agree with this heinous idea of consolidating the district to save money, have obviously never driven by the new
EMPTY
District Building. It a ridiculous idea and the only people who get hurt are our children. The future children of America.
Aycock is a LIER

I wholeheartedly agree. It's an outrage to put not only us as parents, but our own children, under the stress of new schools, crowded classrooms, and I dare even say higher risk of having to walk the extra distance, so school board members can have a little extra change in their pocket. Step up Vacaville, and let our children get the education they deserve where they deserve it.

If our town built a school (The Fairmont building) saying it is a CHARTER SCHOOL, knowing it would NOT BE a charter school, hey, that must be illegal. I am really, really appalled.

The outrage comes in when the Superintendent and our School Board Members think they can buy a building like that and close our schools to pay for it. Our board members and our Superintendent need to start asking the people THEY work for about such major decisions. Stop making decisions behind close doors. Step up Vacaville our kids have lost enough. P.S. Don't care what fund it came from.

Good job Patti. I guess Mr. Aycock dosen't have children in your school district. Even so, how can someone feel good about five school closures under his belt. And how can the school district justify moving into a brand new building when they are saying VUSD is in the hole. Something is very wrong here.

Get your facts straight. Fairmont didn't qualify for charter school funding status, therefore, it had to apply for funding like all other traditional schools. While it is NOT a charter school, the Fairmont principal however sought approval last summer from the scoo board to "convert" the school to charter status but was denied by the board. The two issues (charter and construction funding) are separate items that the letter writer mixed together. School closure? Not Superintendent Aycock's authority to do so. The decision rests with the scoo board and the scoo board only. Now with several new scoo board members elected yesterday, maybe the district will rethink the need to close any schools.

Ahh, smart man this Flask guy. Too bad you were not elected. You got my vote! It's time to consider consolodation of the Travis USD and the Vacaville USD. Too much duplication of services.

Enough already. No schools have 3 VP's. Name one...come on, just one? Some schools share VP's due to staff reductions.

Didn't we just elect two new scoo board members yesterday? Is there a new majority on the board? Doesn't Aycock work for the board? You want to replace Aycock, then do the math.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Pisces

You're lacking in energy and resources today, which will soon slow you down and make you feel as though you're wading through treacle. The only way to cope is to have as many breaks as possible, and not to set yourself impossible goals that you could never hope to meet. You're also very susceptible to the criticisms or put-downs of others, but do your best to ignore them.
