Why are Harris's signs on city right of way property when the city made the request of all the candidates to respect the city ordinance and not place their political signs on the city property? All the other candidates respected this but Harris. Why? If she choses to ignore the city's request does that mean as mayor she will disrespect the city's requests and do what she please. This to me speaks of her character.
HARDY gets my vote.

I agree. If Harris is already doing what she wants, what a mess it would be if she was the Mayor.

This is the crappiest all around election for anything that I EVER remember! Candidates bashing each other relentlessly, outspending each other ridiculously, and just generally displaying their ugly backsides.

What would happen if every voter stayed home and nobody voted? Oh, yeah, the candidates would vote for themselves, of course. LOL! Laughing...

I will vote for Hardy but I don't know why. I just will. Oh, maybe it's because I don't like the other candidate's first name? Yeah, that's it.

And as for Queen Meg in the governor's race, heck, I'll vote for her even though she desperately needs a facelift.

Harris is the only one not playing fair. She is putting signs on city property even though she and all the other candidates were asked not to. The other candidates respected the city's wishes. Now Hunt's dihns are being stolen. We don't need someone as mayor who does not play fair. All the other candidates are fighting fair...why not Harris?

I am voting for Hardy because he is an honest man and he is supporting issues that will keep the City of Vacaville a wonderful city that we all know and love. It is not fair that his opponent is putting her political signs on the city's property even though the city asked all candidates not to. Hardy complied with the city's request along with all the other candidates. I have to say, I respect him even more for putting the city above his own personal gain.

What has happened is that the City of Vacaville has found itself in a trap of their own making. The sign ordinances, in all likelihood, do not pass constitutional muster (as so profoundly understated in the Candidates Handbook).

The underlying cases are Ladue v. Gilleo, 512 U.S. 43 (1994), and Metromedia v. San Diego, 453 U.S. 490, if you have an interest.

So, now what we have is the City asking the candidates to forego their constitutional rights...since they have been lagging on getting the sign ordinance corrected since 1994. Why should someone give up the rights because the City ask them to??

It also should be pointed out that the City cannot permit one type of sign in the public right-of-way, and prohibit another, based solely on its content...for example, real estate signs, or other such signs of a similar nature. Using Google Street View, I see such real estate signs -all over- Vacaville. It should be noted that "political speech" enjoys a far more protected status than mere commercial signs. This has been repeatedly upheld by the Supreme Court in numerous decisions.

The final question is this: if the signs are in "violation", why hasn't the City removed them? Short answer for you: because they are constitutionally protected free speech.

The candidates character says a lot. Harris showed bad character when she put her own agenda above the city's wishes. The city asked all the candidates to respect their wishes because if all the candidates put their large signs up in these areas it would post a safety hazard. All the other candidates put their own personal agenda aside and put the city's wishes and safety first. When voting for a candidate their character is best way to judge them. I will vote for Hardy because he shows good character and that is a quality we need in our mayor.

To guess that Hardy will spend more than Harris is a guess. FACTS: Hardy put the city first. Harris did not. HARDY is who we need as mayor.

how can you say that....look at how much money Harris has put out on her campaign...

True...she has the money to spend...but that didn't mean she should have to spend it...or spend it the way she did...

yes Hardy did not have as much money as Harris; however, he did not go around asking every single person he saw for cash (in this city or outside this city)...

HE NEVER ASKED ME FOR MONEY...He knows times are tight...we volunteered our time, not our check books...Hardy has dug deep into his own pocket for his campaign, not the pockets of everyone else....He is obviously willing to take cuts himself, from his own pocket...he believes in this city and is willing to sacrifice his own before taking from others...

This is the kind of budgeting and self sacrificing Vacaville needs in these tough economic times...

NOT someone who is going to spend spend spend...

Hardy is the best candidate for the Mayor of Vacaville. Money, no money, spend or not spend who is to say. It does not matter. His morals and values is what will make him a great Mayor. We all know that Harris did not respect the City of Vacaville, there is no contest on who will be the best and honest mayor...HARDY!!!

Whomever becomes mayor will hate the job so if Hardy gets it, I will laugh and gather up all his election signs and post them on public property.
