North Adams has a great leader and the two Adams should be merged and have Mayor Barrett run the combined towns. He has done such a great job bringing artists in and creating great jobs for the citizens of NA.

I would like to propose that the following terms be banned from use:

Amazing
Blessed
Surreal
Not so much

Let's write what we think & stop relying on these overused terms. Thanks.

"The caliber of some of them is just amazing," West said. "We've got an attorney, other people in similar positions, former administrators. It's kind of amazing to me the number of people that have their master's degree in public administration.

"I honestly thought we'd have more local people, with KB Toys and the like going out of business, but they may not be searching in the municipal arena. But this is a good, strong number to have."

Amazing? Amazing that the chairman of the Administrator Search Committee would say this. Amazing the number of people that have their master's degree in public administration. What would that be 22? Amazing that more applicants weren't laidoff toymakers. The article tells us more about Mr. Ketcham, than the members of the search committe. Who are they, and what are their backgrounds and qualifications? Souds like selectmen appointees.

Don't you want jobs in Adams. Look how fast he has gotten that Lowes mall built and wouldn't Adams benefit from a couple dozen "artist". They are great employers and could design the "Glen".

Barrett has created what? Jobs... What he has created is a lot of hot air. He is a bully and a blowhard. It doesn't take much to identify a problem but it takes a leader to fix it.

While I think that the Adams Selectmen should be replaced with a group that can steer the town through these troubling times, I know that the hot wind to the north is not the answer for Adams.

Look back to twenty five years ago and look at each community and what they faced. Then ask which community has come the farthest. Which was completed,Mass Moca or Greylock Glen? The record speaks for itself.

P.S. compare taxes in the two communites

This is the Adams way...they exist in secrets. I think the taxpayers should have a say as to who is on the search committee. We're tired of having a new lame duck administrator every year. We need a strong leader to step in...one who has vision and one who can speak up to the selectmen.

Good point. The Adams Selectmen have been motivated by their own personal gain. This prevented anything from getting down at the glen. There has been no strong leadership regarding developing the glen because it truly hasn't been at the top of the list for previous selectmen. In fact, I would like to know what the goals are for current selectmen. What do they hope to accomplish for the town? Does anyone really know? Where is the vision and the purpose? What are they pushing to get done? Plenty of meetings behnd closed doors though...

Yes John Barrett has lead NA to such wonderfull success that it is now the poorest city in the state according to Mayor barrett. Take a ride around Noord Adams and see the new lowes the Fit for a King Hot Dog street, the bad schools, the free vehicles the mayor drives around in etc etc

I know several folks who have applied for the Admin position and to date, none of them have heard anything more than what was written in the paper. Now that's AMAZING. You would think it would be rather simple for someone from this " Search Committee" or maybe even Mr West, to pick up the phone and acknowledge receipt of the resume's and let these folks know where they stand. If I recall, the deadline for applicants was January 19th.(maybe it was in 2010) I hope all 22 applicants find other employment prior to being contacted.

Its a tough world out there these days and a little timely feedback goes a long way....this shouldn't be too much to expect.

What a town.....

this is why you need a leader like Mayor Barrett who will bring order and jobs to Adams in due course once these two hamlets merge. He will also improve the schools and will reopen the hospital.

The goals for the the current selectmen are to get reelected. What they hope to accomplish, keep the sunoco station junkyard looking the way it does and try to convince taxpayers that there is nothing they can do about.

2 seats open huh? You mean 2 seats up for re-election. As far as I know both incumbents are running again, and in Adams, voter apathy runs wild, so there is no point and no chance of an outsider trying to break into the establishment.

I agree. Both incumbents know that all you have to do in Adams is state that you'll keep taxes low and protect the elderly and you're in. The elderly are simply not willing to take chances and will vote for who they know who will advocate for the least amount of change. I wish luck to anyone taking out papers for the board but just understand that if both incumbents run, your chances are slim and none. No matter how bad they've been.
