When I bought a shotgun a few years ago at Academy it didn't take that long. They ran it there in the store. I don't know if the wait is longer now.

If you are going to buy your husband a gun then the gun will be registered to you and not him so if you are not a felon and dont have any domestic violence charges or any mental or drug problems then they will run your name there at the store it only takes a couple of minutes. Word of advice oasis has sucky return policies its up to the manager what he feels like. I recomened you buy it at walmart if you want a rifle if its a handgun I would defenitley go to academy sports or nagles gunshop in san antonio way better selection and alot cheaper than oasis.

The gun is not registered to you or anybody (in texas, at least). The dealer who has a ffl license will need a valid license or govt issued ID with your current address. You can only legally purchase a firearm for yourself (at a dealer), so do not mention it will be a gift. You will fill out a form that contains personal information and a questionnaire. The serial number and your signature are recorded on the form, but when they call the FBI for a background check, they will only tell them if it's a long gun or a hand gun, not the serial number. The dealer retains the original paperwork so it can be checked later if there is a question about what type or serial number of the gun. If your background check is good, you can take the gun home with you immediately. They can delay it for a few days if there are questions and they need to perform a more in depth check. You must be 21 to purchase a handgun.

Last time I was at academy they had a big selection of all kinds of glocks. Nagles gunshop on SanPedro is also a big handgun dealer and they are very helpfull. You will pay about $400 for a top of the line Glock.
