It is against city ordinance to shoot a bb/pellet gun within city limits. My son and I were shooting at cans in our yard. I didn't think anything of it since we have a privacy fence and the cans were on the ground. My neighbor, whom had never bothered to wave in the two years I'd lived here, came to my door and said he would appreciate it if we not shoot the bb gun in the backyard for fear of a stray bb. He said it was against city ordinance. Since I was new to this town I called the police dept. to inquire if it was illegal and they told me yes. Good to know the law of the land!

Home Use
If a person is firing a BB gun within their own home or on private property, it is not considered any sort of offense. While the force of a BB fired from one of these "weapons" may be enough to break glass or dent drywall, it isn't usually enough to cause actual injury. As long as a person doesn't attempt to cause injury to another person or damage any property that isn't theirs with the BB gun, there is no real restriction on using a BB gun on private property.

As I mentioned before it is against city ordinance to shoot ANY gun within city limits. That includes home use as well. There may be laws in the state of Texas that allow such use but the City of Uvalde does not allow it. When my son and I were shooting at cans and my neighbor informed me of it I called the police dept. to find out for myself and they confirmed what I was told. Here is a link to the Uvalde City ordinance concerning guns:

Hope this helps.

So...is this law statewide? I take mine with me to shoot in t he country. So..if it's in my car, is that an offense?
