it was Pyron's first, then Orbit. We've never had a Weiner's store, but we did have Winn's (where O'Reilly's is now). Of course, everybody went to Gibson's after the Piggly Wiggly shut down (which was later the first Super S) where Blockbuster's shut down.

I also remember when there was nothing past Gensco, and the high school (now Flores Elementary). I also remember when the schools were all open campus and even in junior high, you could leave campus for lunch. I always used to go to the snack bar/store where Uvalde Photo is now.

Ahhh... The good Old Days it seems like only yesterday that we would get our mouth washed out with lye soap for speaking spanish in school. And who can forget those guys that used to ride on horseback to the edge of the Mexican Barrio wearing those white sheets burning crosses in your front yard late into the night. What a magical moment... I really miss those funny signs that said "No Dogs, No Negroes, and No Mexicans Allowed." I sure do miss seating in the balcony and giving up my seat to the white folks at the movie theater. And who can forget those good old fashion lynchings in front of the Baptist Church good gosh the memories it makes me one to break into song....

You know what I feel like singing here it goes....

"Southern trees bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves
Blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
The scent of magnolia sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
for the rain to gather
for the wind to suck
for the sun to rot
for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop"
People are strange

I remember the cozy diner or restaurant it use to have a small juke box at each table and you could play your favorite songs while you have lunch or diner. That was so cool .
