Drive thru Higby Hills Drive (off from Higby Hill Road) if you want to see LARGE (Castles) homes. One of the Carbones live there in their "Castle". These homes are not only huge, but very elegant. I didn't know Utica had that many "rich" people living here that could even afford the maintenance coses of these homes - let alone the mortgage paymnents!

Those houses are cheap, cookie cutter McMansions. But I can see how you are so impressed with them when you compare them to your trailer!

And by the way, it's Higby Rd., not Higby Hills Rd.

Maybe YOU live in a trailer, as I certainly don't!
These homes in "Higby Hills" are far from being "cookie cutter McMansions". When was the last time you ever visited this location? Before you insult people, get the facts.

I live on Higby Rd. and my facts are quite straight. Those McMansions are eyesores. There are a few nice houses mixed in, but those are the custom built ones that were built by real professionals. The rest are mostly spec houses that were built en masse by developers and sold at inflated prices to suckers that thought they were buying class and status.

Go back to your trailer and get YOUR facts straight before you post on a topic you know nothing about.

Oh good Lord! There are some big houses around. Pratt Mansion (ick), Salernos (yeah its ok, they decorate it tacky), Giotto's house on Mohawk (its a nice house, but the wife is bitchy), Herron Landing is nice as well. Carbone's live down the street from me, and there house for sure is not a mansion. Either is the other Carbone's homes, from Joe to the sister, not mansions. But who cares anyways? If you live in a trailer, be proud of your trailer, if you're middle class, be middle class, and if you have a mansion, then good for you, its great, be proud of yourself, but don't act snotty, because you didnt always live in a mansion.
The point is, don't compare yourselves to others, be proud of what you have and who you are.
Well put. Regardless of where people live they are rarely happy to hear that I've come to prepare dinner.

Mansions in Utica area cost 1/10th what mansions would cost in any other city. Even the mansions in Syracuse and Albany start at $1 million. The "castles" in Utica cost $500 thousand max. These big houses are a joke. People who live in them are actually stupid enough to believe they are rich, but they don't know the first thing about the rich lifestyle. If they spent a week in Lake Forest, IL or The Hamptons on Long Island they would learn the hard way that their so-called rich status in New Hartford/Utica doesn't mean chit to the rest of America.

They might act like big shots when they walk and drive around town, but the only people they are trying to impress are the welfare slobs and working class stiffs who can barely afford rent on their falling-apart houses and tin trailers.

I lived in CA where a modest new ranch house would cost $400,000. People who lived in these houses certainly didn't think of themselves as rich. They only thought of themselves as maybe "comfortable" or upper middle class. They might have made $100,000 per year but they still didn't have a lot of discretionary income to spend on lavish things. However, one would think the bozos with $400,000 mansions in New Hartford were socialite jet setters by the way they act. And the way they brag about the Montessori school and New Hartford High School as if they were expensive prep academies...

Like I said, it's embarrassing and ridiculous.

They could have the biggest houses the biggest above ground hotels at the cemetary guess what everybody ends up in the same place. Vanity just like people who win the lottery and end up broke mentally ill or worse. Money cant buy the things most people want most in this life. Well it does for me though. Happy holidays you twits and dont forget if you get jammed up see Leon Leon the best in town. I dont need all those glittery ads on TV to make money and don't forget it

You are exactly right; good advice. I always told my children to be happy with what they had as there were many people that were worst off then them and would trade places with them any day of the week. There will always be someone far richer than you, but many that are so much poorer than you also. It the house that is considered "home" that is the "mansion" in our family's lives.
