The city wants to use Schennecdaty when it comes to a model in there street scapes because it is of the same size but when it comes to public safety it's a different story. Schennecdaty has 142 police officers and Utica has 172. What's wrong with this picture?
Schennecdaty does NOT have all the prisons that draw the relatives and friends of the low lives caught doing crimes.

Compare the crimes that the Officers in Schenectady face compared to what UPD deal with on a daily basis - huge difference.

the point is wrote:
The point is that the budget fight is coming and the battle will continue that they need the manpower that they will either lose or need to maintain. Palmieri need to grow a set of balls and tell them that they either re-negotiate contracts and give back a few perks, pay cuts, raises and pay a little more for their heath care to keep the numbers the way they are or stay greedy and lose a few more officers. These aren't the Roefaro days of give aways anymore and the taxpayers are the only ones in this city which have made any sacrafises so far hurting our families for there families. Now is the time that they need to face the reality where you either give back a little to maintain manpower or there going to have to lose a few more guys. There should be no two ways about it seeing that public safety eats up nearly 70% of the cities budget while onlt 33% of homeowners are picking up the entire tab. That's the point.
I agree with the point about UPD paying more of their share for the Health Coverage. Gone are the days when the taxpapers should be responsible for picking up the tab for THEIR Health coverages. Afterall, those of us still working have been faced with our employer demanding this of us which we now pay - why should UPD or Teachers or Civil Service Workers be any different.

They could also negociate about overtime - only pay straight time for required Court appearances would help the budget.

As you mentioned before, only 33% of Utica's population are taxpapers and a large number of these are Senior Citizens living on fixed incomes barely existing. They can no longer afford these increases in taxes the politicians in Utica think are a bottomless pit they can draw from.

What about all those fines that the "new" traffic control Officer is bringing in ($677,000 according to the OD)-whose pocket is that going in.

yeah but wear on the car the dealerships charge and then the mileage over they charge at the end

Most leases are for 3 years with 36,000 miles limitation.

IF you know that you will be putting on OVER 12,000 miles every year, then you can buy extra mileage limitation (i.e 50,000 miles) at the time you sign your lease. The extra mileage cost is very cheap.

I should know as I've leased 5 cars in the past years (all American) and never once had any problems or "hidden" charges when it came time to turn the car back and get a new one to lease.

Learn some English dbag and maybe you'll start to earn some respect from the community. You've got a long way to go but it would be a start.

The city of Utica probably pays more for public service than any other city its size in the state. Meanwhile, violent crime rates continue to decrease as we hear a cry for more resources.

As always it becomes a matter of leadership. Generals, AGs, police agencies, and other have always advocated for resource increases to wage war, crime fighting, and more.

Common sense says 60% of your resources going to public safety is too much but some will continue to deceive to general public into believe some threat is imminent so more resources are REQUIRED or the threat will become a reality.

Local agencies used the tactic last time around to get police officers reinstated. Chief simply cut critical positions from payroll instead clerical paper pushers, knowing the county and others would feel the impact so the choir will sang its chorus for more public safety representation.

Its not that the city needs more officers, it needs more officers doing relevant police work.

Ultimately, the city of Utica needs a public safety reset to rid itself of all its corruption.

There never going to give up the Roefaros give aways, goodies and bennies contracts. there going to say they earned it and that we owe them. Palmieri and everyone knows that they must do something because the contracts Roefaro gave are simply un-sustainable and can't be denied. Re-negotiate or we lose four more officers, plain and simple. They can easy have more officers if they cooperate and negotiate contracts in good faith for the good of our city and taxpayers. Do the right thing and we will all be happy.

Of course - they probably obtained the lease with unlimited mileage. Remember - a Lease can obtain anything you are willing to pay for and how willing the dealer is to make a sale.

I totally agree with your idea.

I'm sure there is nothing more they all feel than to have a Control Board come in here and start telling UPD how to operate their Depts. The City of Utica's dwinling taxpapers can NOT afford to pay any increases in taxes to pay these outdated Cadillac Health Plans. This also goes for the State and County Civil Service workers as well as the School Board Members.

NOT TRUE!!!!!! As with any Union, Seniority ruled who went and who stayed. This also applied to those that lost their newly obtained Rank compared to those that had held the same Rank for a longer period of time.

I would suggest you learn the facts before you make statements like the one above that you are sure about.

It did apply to rank but newest officers were not the only release so stop the nonsense. Your union contract is definitely nothing to brag about.

Read what I wrote again!

The ones with the newly obtained Rank were demoted and then their seniority was applied.

Sorry, I didn't know I had to write so a 3rd grader could comprehend.

Palmieri already made it clear that he would not touch the cadillac health care contracts Roefaro gave them until 2015, which is a 3% tax hike each year. Plus we still have the 6 million in debt were still paying down that Roefaro left and have to pay the federal government the $160,000 he mis-used. Where in the world are these generational taxes Roefaro imposed ever going to end. We are talking about 15%-20% tax increases every year. You wonder why he quit, he made his raw deals for taxpayers and split.

How did Roefaro get to maintain these contracts another mayoral term without ever believing he would ever get re-elected? Forgot about the safer grants will be on the hook for that he shoved down our throat to.
