If the city of utica wants to move forward it has to keep the people that own homes and pay taxes, also it has to attract young families to buy homes in the city, that's not going to happen if taxes keep going up, it's time the mayor/council make all those police/fire people that do not live in the city ( and there's a lot) pay an "in lieu of tax" fee. The OD should post all salaries and where each person lives

The city will always be in dire financial ruins unless the pay & bennies are brought under control. If you combine just the UPD & UFD, at least 80% of them DO NOT reside in the city. It's one thing to reap the pay & bennies of these jobs but a whole different story to have some of this income be put back into the city in the form of city residency in property taxes. They love the pay but don't want to live in that cesspool.

yes you can...Police officers are sitting in their driveways or their home when they should be patrolling the areas......

Someone should analyze the staffing needs when the populations of the city is so low....it's sickening what these officer and fir department personnel make....

I agree...also, the city needs to be run like a business....if you work for a business and they are losing money, we get cut, no raises, no pensions, welcome to the real world....also, people working in Utica for the city, should live in Utica....

The city already has a the residency law for its employees - it was voted on and approved a few years ago. But its for new employees.
State law says you cant do that for ff's.

There are too many apes on the loose in this city committing crimes against humans. Expand the Utica zoo, lock up the apes & charge admission to see the apes in cages. Public safety problem solved. And us humans can live in peace & get a tax cut in the bargain. Clean out coonhill & turn it into a banana orchard to feed the ape population.

Every city agency should take a 2 to 5 percent cut in salaries including police and fire until the finances are stronger. My opinion. Every agency who's salaries are tax should be considered

How about cut welfare 25 percent. The pay is fair but the bad part is upd is only serving the same people which are mostly scum bags and non tax payers. This country needs to wake up and cut
These scum bags off. Eventually they will get jobs and not have time to commit crime and we can cut the department. But at this time upd is actually under staffed. But put the blame where it belongs on welfare black community

You wanna know the worst part about seeing these post as an officer are? I am very grateful for my salary the citizens of utica give me but when it goes unnoticed that houses i go in have the sliding glass patio doors open in the winter to cool off because their heat is on to high and they have 7 kids with 3 flat screens and xbox. No one ever blames that for the reason things are going wrong. Instead they blame the police in the utica od and not the 15,000 refugees that are getting free ambulance rides for a hang nail and using upd resources and time and pay nothing

In the first place I don't live in Utica so I'm hoping it goes bankrupt. Its been a cesspool for the last 50 years.
The residency law was passed and is supposed to be enforced on new hires. I propose the city enact a special income tax on its public safety employees...these are the one that are grandfathered in so the residency law doesn't apply to them. A 1% surcharge for all employees living outside the city. You want to reap the benefits of a city position but don't want to support your city by paying city property taxes. If you & your family decide to move in the city the tax will be discontinued.

It's so tough they need to be the highest paid in the state outside of NYC?
