Barbara K. Klein is someone who should be investigated for her self-serving actions. No doubt, one can almost guarantee her income is comprised of tax payer monies that have come back to her in some form of monetary compensation from various sources over the years. For all too long she has hid behind the city school board and continuously used her positioning as a means to financially enrich her life under the guise of "education."

The gig is up!

The not for profits have got away with this for years and now there might be some reporting about it but the question is will it be investigated. To be redundant, in 2007 the UticaOD had an article about the Griffiss Institute. A board member of the Mohawk Valley EDGE gets appointed as first executive director and takes out 71% of first years funding as salary and legal fees. Over $200,000 went to one individual. Where is the investigation? How does MV EDGE appoint one of their own board members to be executive director? This was our (taxpayer) money and I want mine back. Another MV EDGE member's inlaws sell property assessed for $15,000 for $3450,000 where FedEx will be building. Insider information? This property is now being reviewed by MV EDGE for tax incentives. Conflict of interest? It's always the same group of people and their friends and family that are getting the money. Where is the attorney general? The state is broke yet a small number of locals seem to keep on getting more.

what ever happened with the "NP's" working at the Radisson - the Women's business center? A group of family members were running it - made headlines a few years ago and haven't heard about it since.

What about Insight House. I believe something very suspicious is going on between them and drug court, and I believe alot of people are in on the kickbacks. It is why they took Ole Pettersen and CAR out of the picture. When Ole began talking about how his business was saving the taxpayer - how we could cut Medicaid in our county - SOMEONE in that crowd started screaming that he would cause Medicaid funding to our area to be cut. I won't mention any names but the initials are D.V. A few threats came his way, and the dominos began to fall.

Yes, it should make your blood boil. Supposedly upstanding individuals - "pillars in our community" - I believe, are in on this. Do you have any idea what that joke called an investigation into CAR cost you, the taxpayer? Just so these thieves could keep getting their fraudulant kickbacks. How ironic that their accusation against him was MEDICAID FRAUD.

This all typical of how the game has been played for years with our elected official being willing particiapants. Prominent figures bilking the tax payers through their back door schemes. I bet that federal money tastes real good? I bet that prison food will taste even better!

You might be refering to "The Business Training Institute"? ran by Dr. Laino and her relatives, located at 200 Genesee Street? The website listed on their 2006 form 990 is still active. Could not find form 990 filed for 2007.

One thing you can count on - the OD will never expose Insight House. When the corruption falls around here, they'll play dumb like they never knew, and they'll be forced to report on it. But a lot of us know better - they've known all along, just chose to cover it up. The OD is part of it, or you'd have already heard about it.

Who makes the decisions as to what gets exposed? Who is who's puppet, and where is the true seat of power in this corruption? One day the truth will be exposed.

As a former board member who graciously donated my valuable time to numerous non-profit agencies over the years, I'm spilling the beans for all to read.

What the general public needs to understand, is that often board members are expected to volunteer their time for free. Not all board members expect anything in return. Aside from having people of influence acting in a board capacity, many boards will ask ordinary citizens to do the same. Here is where things get interesting. Those with “for-profit” experience can often smell a rat. Those with no experience have no clue what to ask, let alone what to look for. To complicate matters, most Executive Directors selectively share what they believe is pertinent to these boards who often meet no more than once per month.

Unfortunately, the truth is, that most non-profits exist solely as a means of employment for the Executive Director and a handful of others. Try getting to the heart of the organizations finances and you will discover it's like pulling teeth. Once you discover the organization serves no real purpose or should be consolidated with another agency as a matter of basic finance/fiscal responsibility - look out!

Executive Directors are like sharks. Most only care about self-preservation and could care less about being fiscally responsible to society. Furthermore, most will make you feel the organization can't survive without them and will threaten to quit should you expose this information. Should you strike a nerve, they will attempt to "black ball" you and threaten you with all sorts of ridiculous allegations.

In essence, what most Executive Directors want is nothing more than a RUBBER stamp board to serve the purpose as required by the IRS.

Sadly, this scenario exists all throughout the entire Mohawk Valley as well as many other places. I challenge anyone to identify a non-profit that doesn't fit this description? I would like to see just one that operates in a "logical" manner and serves a genuine purpose. Just one?

Most local clubs, veterans orgs and fraternal orgs are not for profit status. I have neen involved with many and have only seen a couple of time that a person did things for their own benefit. Most volunteer to help.

I probably should have said specifically agencies where people are employed and supposedly services are administered.

It's great to have a dialogue here and for the OD to start reporting on the abuse but somthing has to be done by people with authority to stop the abuse.

Yes,something has to be done but in Oneida County, the people with authority - with their connections to the State and to the OD - are the root and perpetrators of the abuse - and what a system they have.

There are also a lot of Foundations out there that do great work. Don't lump all NFP'S in one group.

Maybe the OD is just on another witch hunt trying to drag the community it serves down. I have seen board members donate services from their company to help NFP's but don't report that.
