This is not Atlanta or any city down South. A lousy few inches and we can't handle it anymore. What a joke. Schools close, dam back in the days it took close to 2 feet to maybe close schools, and we walked too. I remember going to school in 30 below too and now they close at anything below zero. Todays kids and society are nothing but wimps. And I have 3 kids in school too. The media blows it out of proportion too. Oh wow, did you get out of your driveway? It's 4 fu** inches of snow.

In laugh these days... everything is so glamorized and the new generation running the schools is part of the sissification of america movement... In the 80s only time we had a snow day was if we got over 2 feet dumped on us fast or it was one of those nasty ones that left sheets of ice on the roads... I live out in the sticks also... They really have got these kids brainwashed today... I showed my 15 year old nephew pictures of when I was his age and we used to build snow forts in the 7ft high banks and piles on the corners of driveways...Some pics of 12ft plus deep snow just north of here... These kids really think a foot of snow is a lot and these sissies running the schools think its a disaster...

I guess we.could blame the insurance companies and the lawyers, after all 1 kid gets hurt on the way to school or 1 teacher gets killed in an accident on the way to school with a few inches of snow on the ground and someone is always looking to blame someone...

Kinda hysterical, our vehicles have become safer over the years, more suited for driving in various conditions... Our awareness of conditions has been made readily available almost anywhere and our preparedness for rough situations is taught or broadcasted on a weekly basis... But yet our answer is to not leave the house now, stay indoors blah blah blah...

This is what happens when crybabies and fags take over... Liberal blowtards ruining it for the rest of us rough and tumble type... thanks a lot queerbaits

It's really funny how nuts people get when it snows and snows alot in WINTER...It is WINTER...what do you think you are going to get..????? And yes it's true, people do panic. As far as schools closing etc...we walked no matter what the weather, and that could be the problem too. More kids should walk to school since alot of times when the schools are closed, they are outside playing in it anyway!!!! There are way too many schools days off as it is, weeks around Christmas, break in February, break in April, give me a break!!! It's ridiculous. No wonder the kids don't learn and do well on exams etc... They are never in school and once they get back into it a "snow" day comes along and they panic and close the schools again! I'm sorry, but it's just not like it used to be and people are spoiled with weather. You know where you live and what you will get each season and should be used to it by now and anything that comes with it.

Schools build five extra days into the school calendar for snow days or emergencies. Under state law, schools are required to be in session 180 days. If more than five snow days are used, days must be made up. The reason schools rarely closed years ago was because there were more neighborhood schools that kids could walk to. In East Utica alone, Brandegee, Wetmore, Mary Street, Mt. Carmel, St. Agnes, and St, Anthony's are no longer around. We also have only one high school in Utica compared to three in the 1980's. Today, there are fewer schools and many kids take the school bus. Unfortunately, not all roads are plowed and schools will not set themselves up for lawsuits. We were not necessarily tougher in the old days, things were just different. On those really snowy days, I remember a lot of absences even though school was in session. Until the 1960's, school began the first Monday after Labor Day and let out in early June. This year, schools started September 4th and the last day is June 27th. The February break and the increased testing have added to the school year in recent times.

Judging from all the cars off the road & fender benders - I'd say CNYers have forgotten how to drive in snow

I walked home from the Armory to Catherine St. On the Sunday night of the Blizzard of 66.
Shoveled sidewalks for about 3 days and made about 5 dollars.
In those days you could almost walk home from Proctor to East Utica just on the tops of the snow banks.
It cracks me up to watch the news people CNN sends out to show how horrible it is in NY city and someone rides by them on a bike.
The roads look like it was raining.
