I happen to know this family quite well and feel they are a very nice, sweet family. Willy and the girls are very nice young adults. As a united family, I am sure that this tragedy of a situation has caused them much pain and for their own children, great sadness. We should not judge and let justice prevail. I believe we should do onto others as we would want done onto us. Media creates stories that sell. They sensationalize miscontrued facts to sell a story. Police prematurely give information before knowing the full details and facts of a matter. Let the facts of the case shine through and judge the situation thereafter. That is the least you would want for yourself, your father, your mother and your own child/ren. Remember this family represents many of those titles.

Okay. That must be why the bail is set at a half a million. They may be a nice family. However, those charges must have something to them. Why no local media coverage?

happened in NJ not here. Why would the local news cover it? They covered the Kogut murder even though she was killed out of the area only because she has a prominent NH name. Those cases happen all the time locally that never get any media. Face it, our local news panders to certain interests. Tragic what happened to that girl, but no more newsworthy than any other domestic battery and homicide just like it.

Until that NJ case starts working its way back to NY, don't expect to see any local coverage.

The Observer Dispatch is probably not covering it because, here in America, people who are accused of a crime are innocent until proven guilty.

Right. Its not like the OD ever convicted anyone in the court of public opinion before.

So newspapers, the observer Dispatch included, have never reported anyone who has ever been arrested?

Regardless, the family certainly hasn't been charged with anything. It seems that this thread has been aimed more at attacking them than anything else. The suspect is in jail in New Jersey and poses no threat to anyone. The family is undoubtedly devastated. Can't we afford them some peace for the moment? Perhaps suspend our judgment until after the trial? Chances are the suspect will probably never return home ever again. So where does that leave us? To vilify the family? That makes no sense.

He was initiating contact from HERE, not NJ. Think about it. Are you that slow?

How come this is being reported? It didn't happen here and he hasn't been convicted?

Because the kid was on trial here before. They made a big deal out of his case that they felt the need to report on him yet again. It did not happen here, it happened in Manhattan and is not newsworthy here either.

So very true. I feel especially bad for Willy. Every time I see that young man he is smiling. Just a pleasant nice person. To come on here and just say cruel unnecessary things about him is a testament to one's character. Obesity is an epidemic in America. I am sure all of us could use to lose a bit of weight. No need to involve an innocent person in this. I am curious about the harping of this being reported to local news media? Seems this person has a personal problem with the family and is using the situation as a platform to "get even". Defamation of character is a very real legal situation. I am sure the evidence doesn't support the charges, thus to headline this in a local paper is very risky if this man is found innocent. You can't retract what is in print. You also cannot change public opinion easily. All posters here already have this man convicted without knowing the evidence.

A local guy almost 60 trolling the internet to have sex with a 6 year old isn't newsworthy? I guess I am that dense too!

I'm not saying anything about the family. I just feel it deserves being reported. I have no issue with the family. Seriously, this is not a minor thing. He won't be coming home. For crying out loud, it's $500,000 bail! That is serious crap. People accused of murder get out on less bail!

The OD covers local events so it can post pictures of women on their front page. ALWAYS from the waist up. Have you not noticed that?

Bail amount has nothing to do with the crime necessarily. The bail amount is higher because New Jersey is not as depressed as Utica, NY. Additionally, flight risk is a factor. A father of young children and husband is less likely to flee the area than an unmarried man worth a substantial amount of money without young children at home. Bail is set based on a multitude of factors. Defamation of Character protects people held in a higher regard of position in society rather than an average person collecting welfare. The opinion of an individual has to be damaged enough to cause lack of worth. A poverty stricken man has no worth, thus his image has already been defamed due to his own creation. Innocent until proven guilty is the same laws you would want applied to yourself. Ask those sitting on death row and people at the Innocent Project how the work hours in trying to free them. We don't know our own fate, therefore we should not judge this man or thy neighbor in any other light until all of the facts have been presented. Clearly with the amount of posts on this subject, the individual wanting to bring this matter to light contacted the local news media. They are not biting because the evidence does not support the charges.
