Sorry, but no cigar!!
Just you know they have "supposedly" until mid may. Some teams in the AHL have announced as late as June as well. The owner of the Canucks wants that rink in abbotsford and he wants his farm team there. There also among the wealthiest families in Canada. Aquilini want a setup like the leafs have.

I guess you are ignoring the other 6,388 links to articles just on this site.
No, it's you denying the obvious. You said they denied. I posted proof that showed they had been approached. I was right, you were wrong. No one ever denied that they were talking. What they denied was that there was a deal in place. We now know that was true and you were wrong when you said there was a signed and sealed deal.
THERE WAS NEVER A SIGNED DEAL.

As with any business transaction interested parties first express interest, determine if the advances are welcome and then perform due diligence if they feel something can be done that will benefit interested parties. The different components in this multi-faceted deal seem to have been at different stages of this process but all dependant on eachother. When the agreement between Abbotsford, the Heat and the Canucks couldn't be reached that put an end to the whole thing. That according to the parties invloved.

The deadline you are talking about for mid-May is the AHL approval isn't it? That deadline only applies if there is something to approve and according to all involved there is nothing.

Wish for a Utica AHL team in one hand and dump in the other. I bet I know which will be full first.

I like I said yes they did deny it. I suggest you search for the links. You can even use this site. As a matter of fact I'm fairly sure you even posted a few.

After reading that article you can't help but think that Abbotsford would want to get out of the deal with Calgary and sooner rather than later.

To me anyway, all of the statements made to the newspaper by the Abbotsford mayor concerning that talks with Vancouver have gone no where and that Calgary/Heat will be back next season is public posturing.

Often what you don't hear speaks much louder than what you do hear. Two things that we have not heard are.

1) An official announcement from Vancouver as to where they will put their AHL team next season.- That tells me they are still negotiating with someone and likely that someone is still Abbotsford and possibly another location as a plan B.

2) A statement from Rod Esche saying that they were unsuccessful in bringing an AHL team to Utica for next season.

Until one of those two things occur nothing has really changed despite what has been reported by newspapers in Abbotsford, Vancouver, Calgary and Peoria.

Very well said and I missed the article you posted so thanks for that.

The city of abbotsford wants to get rid of the entertainment complex. The city of abbotsford wants to get out of their deal with the heat. The private investors of the heat want to get out of abbotsford. The only party left to this is the calgary flames. They know that if vancouver plunks their affiliate team down in vancouver or a surrounding area things will only get worse for the heat and the city financially. Vancouver I believe has zero interest in putting their team anywhere but close to their home. Calgary in my opinion is probably asking to move their team at least the value of the remaining contract. Abbotsford is probably asking for the entertainment complex what they paid for it. Aquillini is ridiculously rich but he's not stupid. That complex had very little public support to be built and is costing tax payers money annually. The private investors money is stagnant. In my opinion it's all about the flames at this point.

1) After the Abbotsford deal fell through it was widely reported that representatives of the Canucks were looking at alternate locations for the Peoria Rivermen including Peoria and other cities. Utica was on that list too. Not just talking. They toured different facilities in different cities. That is hardly being silent on the issue. The latest reporting from Peoria says that Vancouver made an offer and the city of Peoria turned it down but, according to city officials, the "door is still open". If Vancouver made an offer to Peoria that says a lot right there.

2) Why would Rob Esche announce anything? All along while he acknowledged that efforts to get a team were underway he vehemently denied a deal (unlike Utica34) was in place. If there was never a deal then why would he announce that a deal had fallen through?

It occurs to me that this discussion we are having is all about semantics.

I believe that until all interested parties have signed on the dotted line and all prerequisites have been met there is no deal. There can be a proposal or proposals but a deal requires that a meeting of the minds has taken place and that all interested parties have agreed on something. That is certainly not the case here. There is no deal now nor was there ever. There were proposals. There was posturing. There was investigation of alternatives and other due diligence. There never was a done deal.

ALL reporting has Vancouver walking away from tacks with Abbotsford and pursuing other options including keeping the Rivermen in Peoria for another year and further down the list of options, Utica along with Tacoma WA.

From:http://www.pjstar.com/new s/x1213304042/Civic-Center-beg ins-talks-with-NHL-Vancouver-o ver-Rivermen

"Published reports in Canada on Tuesday said talks between the Canucks and City of Abbotsford over an AHL lease had ended, and no deal was made. So Vancouver is seeking a home for its AHL team, and would likely want a very short lease in Peoria while it attempts to wait-out Calgary for a later move to Abbotsford.

Vancouver is believed to be looking at Utica, N.Y., and the Seattle-Tacoma area as well as Peoria. A highly-placed source with a minor-league assessed Peoria as a "clear-cut best option" among those candidates. Travel costs would be a major expense for Vancouver to operate its farm team out west."

Pay particular attention to "talks between the Canucks and City of Abbotsford over an AHL lease had ended, and no deal was made"

ENDED as in over.
