So the OD recognizes that our tax dollars are being wasted for the pet projects of a select few. They say it hasn't met expectations so who looked into this before going forward with it?

It does seem like the bigger and newer shows are out there "Wicked" goes to Schenectady and Syracuse while our refurbished and renovated spot gets retreads and reruns. Who is running the Broadway Theater League and why do they fail so miserably when compared to other upstate locations?

Do you want to know why attendance is down? It's because the line is so poor and we've got the wrong people in charge.

More tax dollars wasted, less actual progress and that's why everyone wants to leave here when they can.

Someone tell me I'm wrong.

NOBODY goes to the "theater" anymore to watch a broadway show.
All the old peole who used to go to the "theater" are either dead or in a nursing home.
You don't appeal to the younger crowd and ever get any decent musicians at the Stanley.
If we want to see a musician, we have to go to the Turning Stone Casino.
Maybe you should tuen the Stanley Theater into another strip joint.
All you have to do is add a few brass poles.

Need to bring in the likes of Lewis Black and some acts like Jack Johnson or Dave Matthews solo. They are getting too artsy with their current lineup which is fine, but the money is in mass appeal.

Absolutely magnificent facility. They need weekend matinee's for families (ie The Wizard of Oz)...it ends too late for young school children. In addition, the cost per show needs to come down..I'd like to go see Mama Mia...for a family of four it's $300 dollars ($75 p/person)...right around Christmas...when moneys an issue for most families.

Show's how much you know idiot. The theaters thrive in bigger cities where people are cultured and educated. Go to NYC and tell me if you think the theater is dead. People don't go to the Stanley because the people of Utica only care about hanging out in dive bars getting sh*tfaced.

All I'm saying when I asked the question to start this is that they spent alot of taxpayer money (that could have helped people or really improved things around here - fix the roads, sewers, demolish abandoned buildings take your pick...) but they spent it there. And for WHAT.

They said it was to bring in bigger and newer shows and then nothing happens. The money is wasted and the attractions are just as lame.

Lewis Black, Dave Matthews, some good musical acts are all great ideas, but where's the BIG SHOW that all that money was spent to attract? All these acts would have fit into the old Stanley theater with no problem. But the big new things?- they're not here, but they're in Syracuse and Schenectady.

We end up looking like dopes led by clueless wonders.

You're are right it, it is a perfect venue for blues. However, will ENOUGH people pay to see a blues show there? ENOUGH to cover the costs to bring in a big name act. Remember, it's not cheap to bring in a big name. You have to pay them, their travel, hotel, food and then you have to pay all those people to work the venue. I don't think the Stanley has faith in the locals to attend, they think they'll take a bath on a big show. Utica is not a destination city either. Uticans travel to Albany, Cuse, etc. but how many people from those cities travel to Utica? There is not much to offer when it what it really boils down to.

I am all for enhancing the "quality of life" in this area and always will be, however, did everyone forget that we have RAW SEWAGE running into our Mohawk River and that it will take millions of dollars to resolve ?

I enjoy going to the Stanley to see shows, and I do feel that it is a nice landmark and lovely piece to this area, however, I would enjoy the shows even more so if our illustrious politicians (that have known about this RAW SEWAGE for many years now) had the balls to say,

"Hold the phone here !--------- If we are going to go out and procure tax dollars and grants, is there any chance that we can stop the RAW SEWAGE from dumping into our Mohawk River, BEFORE focusing on the Stanley ???"

Priorities ? Naaaaaaaaaah !

Remember when Tiny's used to have blues or jazz acts? Well that is a small venue and they couldn't fill the place. How in the world do you expect to fill the Stanley? I'll bet if they booked Joshua Redman, nowone around here would know who he was. I'll bet that the Dave Brubeck Quartet would have bombed in Utica.

The place is great now. Rocky Horror was fun. Nutcracker was the same as always. Maybe having more shows on weekends instead of weeknights might help. But then again the bigger cities are probably getting the weekend slots. Maybe more concerts too. If Turning Stone can fill the showroom with Tesla why can't the Stanley? Or any other not so current but good rock acts?

with donna donovan on the board, it's easy to see why it's down the drain-just like she sunk the paper, she finished off the stanley. she was so 'essential' at the od that they never replaced her after she 'retired'....she was undoubtedly asked to leave or take a transfer or a demotion. good riddance in any case to a fat, bald, ugly hate monger.
