I was thinking you don't see many people who are truly caring out and about . The sad part is I think most people lost faith and hope . I think some people don't know how to act . I know some people just love their addictions . People love addictions more than themselves . That's another topic . Look around when you go out . People are so stressed . They don't know how to act or too stressed out to be kind . If we would wake up each morning and say how can we be kind to people today , even if it's hard . Doesn't anyone miss kindness ? I can't remember the last time someone was really kind outside my family .

Ppl just think they are too busy to treat others respectful anymore. How long does it really take not to let the door slam in someones face? I always hold the door, ask the elderly in lines if they need help loading or unloading their carts on the belt or into their cars, it saves time over waiting and watching them struggle with heavy and awkward items. But, I was raised by parents and grandparents, not nannys and babysitters who don't feel its their responsibility to teach manners and right and wrong.

Most of the people that have manners and are well mannered are from the older generation as this was mandated by their parents when they were young.

Being kind to each other is simply a matter of respect for your fellow man. My grandchildren, as well as my own children, have been taught to say the words Thank You and Please by the time they were 2 years old. Very simple words but they carry a big impact on people that hear them say these words.

My 4 year old Great Grandson opens doors for his Mom, me, and any other lady that enters a store the same time he does. The other day while grocery shopping, we came down an aisle that someone had carelessly dropped a loaf of bread on the floor. My Great Grandson stopped, picked it up, and put it back on the shelf - all without being told to do it!

Manners should be taught in the home. However, with some of the younger generation, they were never taught themselves so they can't teach what they themselves don't know how to do.

I think maybe you are comparing people on topix to the general public. I don't expect much from these people because it is anonymous. I do see kindness out in public though. You have to take whatever people write on here with a grain of salt.

To explore your 'lack of kindness' points, I have a theory: I believe there are two major reasons that the lack of respect has flourished.

First was when suburban homes began to be built without front porches. It was the beginning of the end of knowing your neighbors.

Second was when NYS allowed drivers to make right hand turns on red lights. People don't know or don't abide the law. They tap their brake pedal then attempt to beat on-coming traffic while going through the light. Respect for others went right out the window.

I agree. You are right on both points.
