I looking to have a boiler and insulation installed. I am going to choose either Kalex or Advanced. Any advice on either choices will be appreciated.

I would recommend Kalex. I dont know about the other company, we had dealings with Kalex. You catch a break on utilities when you upgrade including I think able to write it off on your income tax forms. We had a repair done but from their commercials incentives are given when new energy equipment is installed. Good Luck UM.

I'd personally recommend Standard Insulating from my own experiences, but if given the choice between the two, I'd go with Kalex as well.

Be careful though, you can only get a tax credit on home energy improvements paid for in 2009. The Residential Energy credit expired for 2008, but was re-enacted for next year.

You get what you pay for. You pay nothing, you get nothing. With the rebates from National Grid and the tax incentives, insulating a house IS affordable, regardless of who does it.

I can't speak for Advanced Energy, but I had Kalex do work and I would NEVER let them in my house again. They tried to get me to pay for work done by their subcontractor when they were not on the job site to supervise them, due to Kalex, I had no gas (no heat, no hot water) for a day due to an imaginary gas leak that Kalex found and National Grid pulled the meter. I would not even let Kalex fix the leak. It took 4 months of me calling Kalex, their contractor, and finally NYSERDA to get a broken window fixed. Kalex's statement was that it's sometimes tough to get in touch with these people. Obviously that means they either choose poor subcontractors, or they have no pull with their subcontractors. When their subcontractor blew insulation into my house, Kalex did not prep my basement properly, and there was insulation all over the basement, and the contractor literally blew out a wall, causing insulation to be blown all over my son's bedroom.

Kalex = nothing but big headaches!!!!

Definately Kalex. I had a large project done by Kalex and I couldn't be more pleased. It did take some time to get all the approvals but the rep was knowlegeable and sincere. He helped me get Grants and rebates that I would never had found on my own. The workers did an outstanding job. I have had other tradespeople look at my new boiler and praise the workmanship. They completed their work (plus some extras)and cleaned up like professionals. I would not hesitate, Kalex!!!!

Mr. Patience,
This response is from the owner of Kalex Energy Co. I am sorry you are displeased. I can assure you that your gas leak was real. We have proven over and over that the gas sniffers that Kalex uses are much more sensitive than those used by National Grid. We have no control over National Grids activities once we locate a leak. We would rather be safe than sorry. In regards to your remaining comments, We are not perfect. I believe we addressed all issues that are mentioned in your post. If not, simply call us. We have no problem taking care of our responsibilities. Your situation was brought to my attention through this service and I do not know who you are. Please call our office and we will take care of any problem you have.

A friend had Kalex do some work at her house and said she would never do that again. Was very unhappy with the work. I had Standard for insulation and they ruined my siding. What a mess! In my opinion, you have to be home and watch every thing these companies are doing or you will get screwed. I know we all work and can't be at home during the day to watch these workers but the only way the job will get done right is to be watching over their shoulders.

Wow patience, its a good thing the fouind that gas leak, it sounds to me like Kalex very well could have save you and your family's life. I too have worked with Kalex and let me share their throughness in making sure my family is safe was much appreciated. I had a cracked heat exchanger and we wer getting sick and not knowing why. Of course they installed a new furnace and did a wonderful job but more importantly they put my family first and it sounds like they did the same for you. Too bad your being disgruntled gets in the way of the fact they helped you

Only go with Kalex

I had this company work onmy house and i have not a single complaint. I had 3 teams of thier workers in my home. Furnace workers, window workers and thier insulation team. These were the most professional, polite and hard working people yhat I have ever had work on my house. I have hired workers for 37 years to improve my home and Kalex by far was the best I have ever seen or hired. By the way, my fuel bill (gas and electric) was cut in half.

The rebates are based on income now. I used kalex for insulation and the job was done very well.

I had Kalex install a boiler....they came out with the wrong boiler...had to wait 2 weeks for the right one...they never had the right things they needed to work with. took a week to get the boiler in. The installers stunk of alcohol. I would not recommend this company at all.

DEFINITELY DO NOT USE KALEX!! I've had them do work at my house and it all has to be redone. Insulation still getting tons of ice build up. Tons of issues with this company. If you value your money DO NOT waste it with this company. Yeah he says he will fix the problem trust me he will not!! I had to threaten to call better business bureau to get mike on the phone just to get the runaround. It burns me every single day when I look at my warped deck from it being installed incorrectly! Composite decking is installed with the fasteners underneath not screws all over the top!!!

Good lord I would never hire kalex, over priced, shabby workmanship and unprofessional. You are paying for the owners expensive tastes. Go with someone that is big enough and has experience and know how yet small enough to care about their work and actually goes to each job site. In other words not a greedy man sitting his his office with bandit commissioned sales people, and sloppy disinterested workers.

Anyone can install a boiler, it's what they sell you is the most important. Weil-mclain, is a great boiler. The new wall mounted high efficiency really save, Lennox, Buderus. Out of every brand, every one has had problems, have never seen a brand with 100% reviews.
