What's the big flap? Both their names end in "I"; both are goombas. No need to fret. All will be as usual (SNAFU).

The district is required per the teacher’s union contract, to hire a teacher if one applies for the position. This would eliminate Byron Abraham from getting the job. If they offered him the job, any teacher that applied could file a grievance through the union. The district was forced to hire one of the teachers that applied.

The district is required only to hire a qualified teacher. If there isn't a qualified teacher then they can go outside the district. Just like the basketball coach. I would think the union and the board would question why would they hire a head coach with no experience. How can the board approve a head coach that has never coached varsity football ? 2 other teachers applied with more experience than Jim Giruzzi

Wrong they hired Mark Joseph as the varsity basketball coach, he is not a district employee and an ucsd employee also applied. They hired David Guido jr last yr as the asst baseball coach and again a ucsd employee applied.
It's all what the boss wants to do and they use the rules when they choose.

You would think since the "old" staff was out they would want to get someone in there that at least knew the game & could teach the boys a couple things about football. I assume they would want to win, if not many games a few would be nice. What happened to Nick Santiago as a candidate? He played on Fiorin's only winning team & went on to play DT at SU. I get the whole teacher thing, but like someone else posted, at least get someone with experience & not experience from the 70's, holy!

What exactly does nick Santiago know about coaching football in general that's more than the Girruzzi guy?? Cause he played at SU, he can coach??? Since when? Do you expect him to call plays?? Any experience? He surely can coach the lineman but you don't just walk into a coordinators position on offense or defense having never done either. You have to know what you are looking at and that comes from experience and he has none! The way I look at it is both him or Girruzzi are not qualified in the least bit for this job.
