Who owns lot on Oriskany Blvd? They were collecting parking fees for last Sat night UC game. Is it owned by the city, county, privately? It is the one across the street from police lot, and across street from huge white building. They have these throw by night no parking signs next to each garage door that are not even used and look like they would not even open! Oh, but don't park there, they will tow you. Who gets away with this b...s...t? Someone is running a parking scam in the lots and street around AUD. Time for someone to take a look at this. And if you are going to charge $10 for parking, at least clean up the parking area! Are they required to have insurance for personal injuries for falls in their lots?
Whoever is in authority, take walk around AUD area on a few nights of games...see and hear for yourself what is going on. Total ripoff!
Looks like this is still going on! REQUEST A RECIEPT! This has been an ongoing problem...
Who can help out with this? Who should ne looking into this scam? People need to take a stand against this Utica crap that keep going on...and on...and on...get the point?

If the money was collected legally we would probably not mind paying even the $10 they have neen collecting. The reciept given for parking is either none or a raffle ticket. Who is getting this parking money? Is it being reported as taxable income? Do the math...someone is taking in a sizesble sum of money. On top of that, they do not watch the paid lots, if people are getting broken into while parked in the lots. UTICA needs to get this talen care of. Get money collectors to provide legitimate reciept for funds recieved. Come on, time for undercover sting on this PSRKING around the AUD scam.

Does they people who owm the lot pay taxes on the money they collect? It is not a couple of cars in a driveway. More like hundreds of cars. Quit scamming us if you do not pay taxes on money collected. Undercover story is coming soon.

Unfortunately you are right. That's why the only way to stop this and things like it is to pressure your legislator. The CE's power only goes so far. Legislators have the final say on expenditures and taxpayers have the final say on legislators.
I also agree that no real economic development is headed for that site anytime soon. I'm just saying that the label was put on that parcel and now is just being disregarded with no public discussion.
I also don't disagree that the Aud need additional parking. It always has needed that. What I disagree with is using Oneida County tax dollars to do it at a time when we have the highest sales tax in the state. If the Aud needs parking then why doesn't the privately owned company that now runs the Aud pony up and pay for it. From my perspective the flow of cash seems one directional. Between state and county funds this latest scheme will put the total at $7.75 million. Please someone tell me in real terms(not pie in the sky projections) how long it will take for the taxpayers to recoup that investment. The truth is that it's not an investment at all. It's a giveaway to a small group of private investors.
You are right on. Thought you might like this article.

this is a little different, the Aud for number one, has never had proper parking for the building of its size. the main parking lot was allot bigger until the re did the route 12 on ramps at the far end of the lot. they took allot of parking spots away from the aud and never replaced them. its about time they got around to doing something. its a public safety issue, someones going to get hit.

http://www.syracuse.com/opinion/index.ssf/201... , it should not be all county taxpayers!
Hike the parking fees, let the people who attend the events pay for the lot. Oh, but then the money collected would have to be accounted for...because we still do not know where the money collected from all the lots now go to.
So where is all the money collected from the lots go to? Can anybody tell us? Just stop passing the buck onto all county taxpayers!

I like your article about the Carrier Dome, which by they easy needs an upgrade to keep it viable, when in Albany they are going to spend $12M to upgrade the Times Union Center.$12M in hopes of getting the NCAA regionals which moves around year to year so this might happen in Albany once every 10 years. The arena's primary tenant the Albany Devils draw less than the Comets.

It's refreshing to see that people are questioning things like this. Look back over the past 25 years or so. How many of these taxpayer financed schemes have we been through? Seems like a at least a few each year where we are told that somehow by spending taxpayer money we will see a beneficial economic impact. Have we? Hardly. We end up with higher taxes every year as our reward for going along with these plans.

When this new lot is constructed, are they going to charge as they do for the existing lot? If they do where does the money go? Does it go back to the county taxpayers who actually own the Aud or does it go to the private business that now runs the Aud? I think that if the lot is being paid for by taxpayers then it should be "free" parking for all. Or, if you can produce an ID that shows that you are a resident of Oneida County then you shouldn't be charged.

I just don't get how we allow the highest sales tax rate in the state and then give away county tax dollars for a parking lot that will first, only serve a very small portion of the population and second, then pay to park there. Am I wrong?

For so long this has been going on...and on.
Still no answer to who gets the money currently being collected. And why should the entire county pay for the parking lot? Just does not make sense...as many other things in the county spending program. We all need to ask questions, especially when taxes are continuing to go up every single year!

This is an interesting article:

Give it a read...Utica and Rome needs to stop passing the costs onto the county.

I think we should use the aud money and build 30 more hope 6 houses for the diarrhea immigrants from fifth world countries and crows to buy for 60 grand after it costs the tax payer 180 grand to build only to have roaches in three years. I think that would be a great idea. Plus instead of using the money to pave the lot that had been needed for 50 years at the aid we can pay the bill for paving west street/ johnson park area so old crack whores and rehabilitate and have a new paved street to go along with their solar panel roof. Are you people f-ing serious with this crap. The state is paying for our aud to be updated and your complaining. People not from central ny should be mad not us who live here

Wrong.

Helping people who need help is something that we should always do. Unfortunately the system allows for cheating. We have to help support those who aren't able to take care of basic needs on their own and the price for being able to do that is some people who shouldn't be getting our help will.

The Aud parking lot is an extra. It's not something that serves the greater good of the people of Oneida County the way that helping those in need does. It serves a small slice of the population and is associated with a for-profit business. It doesn't matter how small the contribution is. There shouldn't be any.

Use the money this way. Lower the tax rates. This will make the area more attractive for business and it will allow residents more money in their pockets. More business means more jobs and more tax revenue. More tax revenue means that closer attention can be paid to abuses in the existing social services system. Spending money for a parking lot and a hockey team just digs the hole deeper.

So they are collecting parking fees on the lots around AUD...saw it with my own eyes this evening. Who is collecting the money? Are they reporting the money collected to IRS? Did not see any reciept given when people paid for parking. Raffle tickets have no value as a reciept...you can buy a roll of tickets at the local party shop. Utica or County needs to make parking legit and legal. Is a vehicle parked in these lots watched/secured for the full duration of event attended? Request a reciept for insurance purposes.
If you have an injury(falling in one of the giant holes in the lots, trip over the uneven pavement), you will want to have proof you paid and parked in the lot.
Do the owners know they are responsible for injuries?
Oh wait, they only collect the money, then take off.
