The county executive is proposing a half million dollar giveaway to the Utica Aud for a parking area. The Aud does need more parking but why should the taxpayers of Oneida County foot the bill? After this parking is in place you can bet your butt, your alley cat and your cowboy hat they will charge to park there just like in the existing lot.

That land was designated for economic development. Does a parking lot qualify?

Does it make sense that Oneida County can't lower the highest sales tax in the state but can afford to give a half million dollars to the private corporation that now controls the Aud?

This is just more of the same nonsense that has been going on for generations and makes this area inhospitable to business(except for privately owned AHL teams that is).

Enough welfare for the Comets already. Call, text, write or email your county legislator and urge them to vote no on this latest tax dollar giveaway.

The parking lot is needed to revitalize the Aud and the downtown area including the Harbor Point area.

When the County Executive proposes such an expenditure, the votes have already been counted. Do you think someone with his ego would gamble on a legislative vote of no that would embarrass him?
This community has already cast the votes that doom our future when they return the same ole faces to office; and, they continue to do it at every election cycle.

Unfortunately you are right. That's why the only way to stop this and things like it is to pressure your legislator. The CE's power only goes so far. Legislators have the final say on expenditures and taxpayers have the final say on legislators.

I also agree that no real economic development is headed for that site anytime soon. I'm just saying that the label was put on that parcel and now is just being disregarded with no public discussion.

I also don't disagree that the Aud need additional parking. It always has needed that. What I disagree with is using Oneida County tax dollars to do it at a time when we have the highest sales tax in the state. If the Aud needs parking then why doesn't the privately owned company that now runs the Aud pony up and pay for it. From my perspective the flow of cash seems one directional. Between state and county funds this latest scheme will put the total at $7.75 million. Please someone tell me in real terms(not pie in the sky projections) how long it will take for the taxpayers to recoup that investment. The truth is that it's not an investment at all. It's a giveaway to a small group of private investors.

This lot is 40 years over due. I hope they start tomorrow and would even donate 50 dollars let alone complain. But if they told me it will cost me 10 cents of my tax money to build the huge hope 6 apartment house on hobart and oneida i wouldn't do it. I love when tax dollars go towards something white people benefit from even white people complain. But when its blacks everyone is scared and throws tax dollars at it. This will benefit all functions at the aud not just hockey

I think you missed the point. There is no pressure that you can put on your legislator to stop the C.E. initiative. Once he 'requests' this in public, it has already been approved. The vote at the Board meeting is just a formality.

Yea no one ever talks about how dangerous it is to have kids crossing a major highway to go to the circus or games. Thank god a kid hasn't broke free from their parents grasp and got hit. But a black kid gets hit on the arterial the state will fund 10 billion of your tax dollars with out any complaints. This point sums it right up so even the idiots that oppose shit their mouth. Thank you mr. Brindisi for thinking of my family for once

They don't talk about it because it hasn't happened and it's been that way for generations. There is a police presence at those very crosswalks at every event.

As far as the arterial, what you said just isn't true. I can remember that back in the early 1980's there was an issue with children crossing and being hit by cars on the arterial. This project is not about a "black kid" getting hit.

Facts are funny things. You need some as supporting information when you give an opinion.

Who owns lot on Oriskany Blvd? They were collecting parking fees for last Sat night UC game. Is it owned by the city, county, privately? It is the one across the street from police lot, and across street from huge white building. They have these throw by night no parking signs next to each garage door that are not even used and look like they would not even open! Oh, but don't park there, they will tow you. Who gets away with this b...s...t? Someone is running a parking scam in the lots and street around AUD. Time for someone to take a look at this. And if you are going to charge $10 for parking, at least clean up the parking area! Are they required to have insurance for personal injuries for falls in their lots?
Whoever is in authority, take walk around AUD area on a few nights of games...see and hear for yourself what is going on. Total ripoff!

Horse shit!!! People has gotten killed on the arterial for the past 50 years. The funding had nothing to do with anyone getting killed.

well i think with increased parking it will be easier to get people to attend events at the aud. it is a large building and can be a benefit to the area if managed properly. 500,000 is nothing compared to the route 12 project.

I was wondering who I paid $10 to last Saturday to park in a city owned lot. Is the revenue collected turned over to AUD or CITY?
