I was amazed to learn that the guy who drove 85 MPH while drunk, and killed that 18 year old girl got 6 months in OCJ and probation. Then in the very next story, they sentenced another guy to 6 years in prison for robbery. Whats wrong with this picture?

Could you show me one ounce of proof he was drunk?

I read the article. Never mentioned he was drunk. If he was drunk that would have been all over the news plus there would have been a HUGE campaign at NH School re-iterating don't drink and drive.
Sorry Steve but your information is not correct.

What is wrong with this picture is inaccurate OD reporting. The rome sentinel reports that the bank robber got 2 to 6 years in state prison, which I believe means he will do six months in shock camp. If I'm not mistaken, when the woods kid pled guilty, it was reported that the family of the dead girl went along with the six months in jail and probation

I stand corrected. I guess I just assumed that someone would have to be drunk to be driving that fast and endangering everyone else in their path. Still a beautiful, young person is dead and the family will grieve forever. That is worth more than 6 months any way you look at it. He must have had a very good lawyer.

Mom always says "Its too bad that God gives us the most important decisions of our lives when we're too young to understand the gravity of those decisions."

I'm not so sure that 'Big Time' is what anyone really wanted out of this. That kid has some very heavy stuff to deal with. We live in a society that will give him an opportunity, ONE opportunity to come away from this disaster. It "seems" like thats what everyone here wanted, including this young girl's heartbroken family.

All ANY of these people have left is hoping for the best for him. As long as this was agreed to by the family, I think it was the only gracious thing left to recover. The bereaved family is trying to forgive, which is pretty empowering, and this kid has a chance to, however feebly.. show that he recognizes how bad a mistake this was, by keeping his nose absolutely clean.

If he screws up this one opportunity to show that he's alot more serious about the lethality of cars now, well, WE'RE not going to whine when they lock him up for a while.

It looks like it was painful for everyone, even the DA gang and Judge D... Woods is the only one who will "decide" whether its appropriate or not, really, by his future actions. If its true that the Rettigs are doing this out of forgiveness and compassion, only Woods can make it "worth anything".

Besides he pled to an SCI, saving the faminly and the County a Grand Jury proceeding. It's like a "no contest". In return was some degree of leniency there.
