What you're forgetting is the "reports" say talks broke down. Last week the "reports" said there was no truth to this what so ever. Stay tuned.
From:
http://www.abbynews.com/news/204174211.html
"Abbotsford mayor Bruce Banman told The News on Monday that talks between the city and the NHL club have reached a stalemate, eliminating any possibility of the Canucks bringing their AHL team to the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) in time for the 2013-14 season.
"There were time constraints, and at the end of the day, the city is not going to do a deal unless it's in the best interests of the taxpayers," Banman said."
"There WERE time constraints" - past tense
Whatever the deadline for resolution was, it has passed with no deal.
That sounds pretty definitive.
Like I said, it sounded to me like there were a lot of moving parts in this deal and they were all contingent on each of them being resolved in a particular way. This part of the deal has fallen apart so the rest falls apart as well.
Another thing mentioned in this article is attendance:
"The Heat have never averaged more than 4,000 fans per game, and they drew an average crowd of 3,778 this season, which left them 28th out of 30 teams in the AHL."
Even with this level of attendance which would roughly be the equivilent of selling out the AUD for every game, the taxpayers of the city of Abbotsford had to pay $3.58 million to cover the teams deficit in operating costs under their current 10 year deal. Numbers aren't in yet for 2012-13. How then could one reasonably expect that having this team in Utica would yield different results?

Far from. Do you realize how badly the city of abbotsford does not want that team? How they never wanted the sports complex to be built? That the affiliation was originally offered to vancouver before Calgary and they turned it down. This is far from over. Aquillini (perhaps the richest man in Canada) now has a hard on to purchase that building and move the baby Canucks there. The citizens are salivating to get that rink off of the books as well as the team currently there out.

No I understand all that, but it's got happening, at least not this fall. And even when/if they do get the boot out of there I see it being in another place other than UT anyway.

Maybe I'm totally fwrong here, you gotta agree there will be no AHL team, in UT, this fall

Actually it's the big picture I am looking at when I say that there are a lot of interconnected moving parts to this proposed deal. Each of those parts depends on the success of the others for the success of the whole. What the mayor of Abbottsford has stated and what was published in their newspaper is an integral part of the big picture. It has gone south and that has the downstream effect of cancelling any plans for a Utica team. Good.

I have to say I'm pleased. I do believe there was a deal in the works and it was going to cost plenty. The taxpayers are better off because I think another integral part of the deal had to do with millions in taxpayer funded upgrades to the Aud. Even though there was no specific line item in the the recently passed NYS budget doesn't mean that there wasn't some underlying plan to use money earmarked for economic development to finance this plan. It doesn't matter what title you give it or if you say "it came from the state", it all comes out of the pockets of taxpayers and makes New York a less friendly place to do business.

It seems to me that since your initial posts saying that an announcement was coming March 23 or 24 until now you always have an excuse for why no announcement has been made. The last being that the season wasn't over and they still had to sell tickets. Now you have another tale. What's next?

I told you on a different thread some time ago, Pa would never let another AHL team call Utica home. 3-4 of the AHL franchises closest to Utica will likely play a couple games each in Utica. Something like 1 game every 2 weeks makes some sense. Stay tuned.
