I have lived in CNY all of my 38 years. I always said that there is a black cloud over this area.

Some friends who used to live here came to visit and within 24 hours they noticed how depressing it is here. The attitudes of the people, the same ole same ole in local government, the rampant disrespect for others, blight, low lives living off the system etc..

Sometimes you just have to forget where you came from and just run the heck out of CNY. I am making a plan to do that within 5 years.

The reality of it all, the area is not going to get better. It has been on a rapid decline for decades.

Its very sad but its reality.

There are a few, a small group that are trying to make differences. However , its a constant struggle. I find this area is depressing as well and don't plan on staying here forever unless the progressive group make huge waves and changes.

Well I will have to research that when it comes time to look for an area to move to. I know that every area has their own problems, but there are many areas that are on the upswing.

Utica was once a wonderful City to live in - back in the 50s, 60's & 70's. We had big corporate businesses such as GE, Chicago Pneumatic, Bendix, NY Telephone, ETC. and Genesee Street was so busy on Monday Nights with shoppers that a Policeman had to direct traffic at Busy Corner.

When all these businesses left the area along with Griffis Air Base, and the corrupt politicians that have always kept this City from becoming what it was and still could be, that is when Utica went into a decline.

We need to attract big corporations to come to Utica to provide decent jobs for people - nothing is being done to do this. Instead, this City has turned into Civil Service jobs and a Welfare haven for the parasites that live off from government funds.

I have two sons that left this area for employment opportunities and moved out of State. Both are living the "good life", earning high salaries, and have so much more than anything they would have had staying in Utica.

Where are the new politicians that we can support that are willing to turn Utica back to what it once was instead of only thinking about themselves and the Friends and Family Programs? I can't think of anyone willing to take this job on - can you?

Utica was once a wonderful city and then I was "hatched". Millions have moved far away since that dark gloomy day! My two sons both jumped off cliffs because I was their mom. Isn't it interesting that I'm so great and yet I have to come on here to brag about everything.Even my dog beating neighbor here on Larchmont ave thinks I'm a turd cutter!Oh crap, gotta go filled my depends again.....
