The NH Library the most brain dead bunch of trustees in the Utica area, led by the lovely Linda Romano.
Time to demand a new board of trustees, chaired by someone we can trust to make better and rational decisions.
Our library is an embarrassment to New Hartford, and the laughingstock of Utica. Linda has clearly demonstrated that the job is to difficult for her, and that her decisions have been wrong. Lets cut our losses.

If you think this list is an embarrassment you should see what a mess all 64 black and white signs posted all over the magazine racks looks in the library. It looks like a 5 year old having a temper tantrum slapped them all over the wall. The bottom line is that Linda Romano thought it was more important to give $16,000 to former Director Hans "Peeping Tom" Plembeck than spend that money on magazines. She and the rest of the trustees are FAILING!

The NH Library should use the magazine racks for another purpose. Why leave them empty with signs identifying they cannot afford magazines because monies which could have spent on magazines was used for another purpose. Here are some of my recommendations:
Copies of the NH Library board meeting minutes
NH Library budget and financial statements
Dates for upcoming board meetings
Flyer on how to become a volunteer
Flyers on upcoming events
Form on how to donate to the library
Other forms (e.g., how to use the meeting room)
Putting negative signs up does not help improve the public's perception of the Library. There are many positive ways the racks could be used instead of using them to promote negativity...

Good ideas except the purpose of the New Hartford Library is not to Disseminate Information for the Betterment of Mankind. No, the purpose of the New Hartford Public Library is to:
-Provide part time jobs with full time pay and benefits to current (and former) NH Library employees
-Stand as a Monument to the Contributions of the Romano family to New Hartford
-Provide a meeting place for New Hartford's senior citizens even though New Hartford Taxpayers already pay for a Senior Center at St John's off Oxford Road.

Wouldn't a porta potty have been a more appropriate monument to the contributions of the Romano family to Utica and NH?
#7 Aug 27, 2013
Perfect. That is a fitting monument to the Romanos.

Whatever problems you may have with Linda Romano should not reflect on the generosity and good will of her father. Mr. Romano has demonstrated his love of this community by sharing his good fortune in so many ways.
Please don't continue to confuse the two.

Let's make an assumption for a moment that on average each magazine subscription costs $25 each (a high end estimate). So what's 64 magazines times $25?$16,000.
$!6,000 just happens to be what Linda Romano and her fellow Library Trustees gave to former Library Director Hans "Peeping Tom" Plembeck. So, we don't have magazines because Romano thought it was more important to use taxpayer money on Hans Plembeck then buying magazines for the library.
The magazine racks should be plastered with large signs saying: "This magazine is no longer available due to Hans "Peeping Tom" Plembeck's generous taxpayer funded retirement gift."

It's a good thing that they didn't ban Playboy?
#11 Aug 27, 2013
You're right. He must be sickened by Linda and John. Both kids are losers. He is a great guy. Maybe he will leave a million or two to the library, so they can fund and expand the magazine section.
Seriously, you're spot on about Gene. But Linda and John will trash the family name after he is gone, much like they are doing now.

Can anyoe think of another instance when a libary has become a joke?
#13 Aug 27, 2013
That's true but for Linda the Romano's "generosity" is about using money to buy power, prestige and influence in New Hartford. That's why she feels entitled to the position of NH Library Trustee President. The Romano's bought it and its hers and no one is going to take it away from her no matter how incompetent she is as a Library President.
#14 Aug 27, 2013
You are absolutely right! The Romano's are players.
#15 Aug 27, 2013
Gene is a player, Linda and (especially) John are arrogant bullies. If John and Linda didn't have a successful father, they would have had much different lives. They might have even turned out as likeable, normal people. Guess that shipped has sailed.

Here is the website for the Waterville Library. Even their website outclasses New Hartford!
While your there don't forget to read about the Observatory and Solar arrays. Of course, enjoy picking a magazine from the full magazine racks.
Its a great Library and it deserves the support and patronage of the Mohawk Valley.
#17 Aug 27, 2013
and according to city-data.com the operating costs for the Waterville Public Library are $185,041
Cit-data.com has the operating costs for the New Hartford Public Library as $635,203
#18 Aug 27, 2013
So the Waterville Library has an observatory, Solar power arrays and full magazine racks and operates at 1/3 the cost of the New Hartford Library. There you go, proof positive that New Hartford Library President Linda Romano and her merry band of minions are failing big time.
#19 Aug 28, 2013
Yub, Time to cut the NH Library budget. If Waterville can do it, NH can.

Hey uh, Mr. NHPower Broker, you seem to have a handle on things there and sound like you're in charge. Would you do me a favor and consider changing the name of New Hartford to "Off ramp Traffic Jam for Utica"?
Truth in advertising and all. My sis has 2 houses she rents and I stay in one sometimes when I'm there and I notice that NH isn't quite the same. For all the "high class" and posturing those overtaxed bluebloods do pretending they're Mr. and Mrs. Howell, the whole town is just a continuous traffic jam from 7am to 6-7pm any more and not worth staying there a few weeks in the summer anymore.
Oh and hey, does the town PD and DPW people still sell themselves cars and equipment and leave the vehicles they "buy" registered and insured on New Hawtford's dime still?
