Geezum could the overgrown mancoward be afraid of the civilians he's disrespected and robbed for pay his whole life? The funniest part is that the od commenter below the article actually thinks the new judge isn't gonna wink wink this cop into an easy disposition. He'll walk and maybe get a wrist slap. The law always looks out for it's own even with new "uninvolved" judges. Someone showed them how to use phones!

NEW HARTFORD

A former state trooper accused of shooting a man's dog last summer has decided to have a judge decide his guilt or innocence, instead of a jury.

Anthony Randazzo appeared in Oneida County Court Friday morning to waive his right to a jury trial, which was set to begin on Monday, March 19.

Instead, Randazzo will now have his aggravated animal cruelty charge heard and decided by a judge that week.

Although Judge Barry M. Donalty has been the judge handling this case since Randazzo was indicted, Donalty announced Friday that he was removing himself from the case.

Donalty said he had recently become aware of facts in the case that prevented him from being impartial.

Now, the case will be heard by Herkimer County Court Judge John Crandall, who just became judge this year after stepping down as Herkimer County district attorney.

Since he was sworn in as judge in January, Crandall has been presiding over family court matters in Herkimer County, as well as some criminal matters in Lewis County.

The special prosecutor assigned to the case, Christopher Pelli, was not in court today.

After the proceeding, Randazzo's attorney, Les Lewis, explained why he believes it would be better for a judge to hear the case, instead of a jury.

"I think there's a better chance of the case being decided on legal issues, rather than emotions," Lewis said. "It would be tough to have impartial thought with 12 people, some of which may be animal lovers and some may hate animals."

Randazzo is accused of shooting Bernard Sperfeld's German shepherd dog Shadow last August on the Trenton Greenbelt Trail.

Randazzo said he shot the charging dog in self-defense, but Sperfeld believes that Randazzo killed Shadow as an act of revenge following a confrontation Sperfeld had with Randazzo's friend the previous evening.

Good lord, who cares? He didn't hurt anyone. Why make such a big deal out of this? Give him a fine and some community service and stop tying up the courts with this nonsense. What a waste of time and resources. Let them get a lawyer and sue him and save the criminal courts for real crimes.

Randazzo should be held accounatable on multiple charges as well as killing that poor man's dog! If a citizen went around shooting in a public area he would be in jail! Hope that Crandall has the balls to sentence this loose cannon retired cheater and animal killer accordingly. If not eventually his bad karma will come back on him. Maybe he'll choke on a donut!

All killers start out killing helpless creatures. You should be concerned that there is a violent person running around with guns in public. Don't be so ignorant!Of all people a former law enforcement officer should know better!

William Richardson got 2 years in state prison for shooting his dog to death.

Shawn Kimball was sentence from 1-3 years in prison for killing a kitten with a BB gun.

Theodore Chrystie was sentenced to 3 years probation for beating a dog.

Michael Jenkins was sentenced to 75 hours of community service for leaving his dog tied up outside in freezing weather.

So, what do you cop lovers think Randazzo should get for going to the trail with a loaded gun, with his girlfriend who had previously sworn to get someone to take care of the dog, and shooting Shadow to death?
