when they bought a policy processing system that didn't exist. Senior managment bought tons of stock driving up the price themselves without understanding how stock works. The developer transferred all real property to a company he owned, sold his stock at the top and walked away fat dumb and happy. Utica and its "intelligent senior managment" took a bath. Employees tried to warn them but "they knew best". The ideal system never materialized. None of the powers that made the decision to buy it paid any price. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

You obviously speak of "Ten-Fold." What a joke that company was so out of touch. Purely a knee-jerk reaction to Y2K. In fact UN data processing dept. spent many hours correcting the f#(k-ups from Ten-fold.

Here's a question for you: How come UN goes out of it's way to hire people from other failed and or failing companies(Krum-Forster one that jumps out). These clowns are micro managers, back stabbers and finger pointers. Just maybe UN would have better results if these clowns would actually manage and own-up to their errors. Instead of letting staff reach a level of competence, they actually promote failure and eliminate any person whom thinks outside the box or disagrees with management. To me it would make sense that if someone micromanages, then they should be held more accountable .... but again it is easier to point fingers, than to take responsibility

One of the IT people disagreed with Dougie in a meeting. Result - instead of looking into decision, the offending party who disagreed with the king was BANNED from ever attending another meeting where dougie was present. Is it any wonder the company is where it is? Let's not forget Doug startd out as an INSURANCE SALESMAN which is one step down from used cars. Don't get me started on his "entitled" wife. She is actualy worse. I guess we need to remember that when his church disagreed with him, he went out and started his own. Mel Gibson anyone? It is not about te good of the comany but all about him.

Utica national is in trouble due to being poorly managed. if you are employed at utica you should be looking elswhere. The mistakes that current management has made will be very difficult to overcome. Examples of these mistakes are under reserving on claims, investing in systems (ten fold)that don't work, buying failing companie(founders and rfi) at top price, hiring outside failures at top dollar, a board that has no clue about insurance, promoting all the wrong people within and terminating or pushing all the wrong people out, expenses that are out of control, and not able to sustain any profitability through market cycles.

There are so many people here that are the same. Not even a secret. Everyone knows who the dead weight is. Just give the work to the already overloaded workers is the answer. Company doesn't have a problem paying out for people who do nothing!

If you work in services, I pray for you. Doug and Brian think that our company is technologically advanced with computers. Therefore, there is no need for any of you in services. Good luck and enjoy working for the torture chamber. I believe these are the same people who invested heavily in ten fold. Same people who under reserved the asbestos claims for years. Bought a failing company, flounders. Running the company on a cash flow basis. Posted poor results since they have been in those positions. Running the company on high expenses ratio. Is it true you have brought in consultants to possibly sell off parts of the company???? What about the fines NYS is going to slap on you? Are they investigating irregularities in the claims department. Don't worry Brian, run all of this threw predictive analytics. The answer will pop out.

Lets not forget the money wasted on the downtown Utica building. Space was only needed tempoarily while more aesbetos was removed from the New Hartford building.(This was done previously but again the company got skunked because it wasn't all removed). Instead of leasing an empty building in the business park, Doug insisted that the Utica building be erected. In his infinite wisdom, he thought this would be the catalyst to invigorate downtown Utica. He wanted to be known ass the saviour of downtown. I guess that was a pissin match with Tom Clark. Well the tax benefits were lost when the goals were not met. There never were any new hires. They were just people who moved down from N.H. Well now the United Way is in the building for free and U.N. is back in N.H. Another of their "Emperor's New Clothes" projects.

Terrible management. The company treats the employees like dirt. The writing is on the wall for this company. All the comments above are true. It will be unfortunate if they lose there A- rating. if u are employed and not close to retirement start looking. if u don't, you will be in a bad predictment.

Nothing changes at Utica National - this poor management has been going on for at least the last 40 years and the way they treat their employees is always the same - terrible.

UN has always had a reputation of a low level insurance company that lived in the Victorian Century - that was always how far behind they were in the insurance businesss.

My advice to those of you that still have years to go to reach retirement age, MOVE or go to Syracuse and apply for a REAL JOB at Travelers before you either have a nervous breakdown or get fired for stepping on the wrong toes at UN.

I worked there back in the early 70s - lasted 5 months and left to work at the Hartford from which I retired with a damn good pension. As I said previously - nothing changes at UN and won't in the future either.

You peons. Get to work. Our plans are to out source and bring in more consultants. The reason for the consultants is due to us not knowing how to run an insurance company? Can't wait to sell out while we become rich...

Fortunately, I didn't work in any of the Depts. that had closings or layoffs. As you will remember, I worked there over 20 years in a professional position and now collecting a very nice pension.
