Last week, 2 senior reps put in their notices in the claims unit & rumors are swirling about the downtown claims manager being investigated by HR! One big ugly soap opera at Utica National!

The head of building operations gets to work from home? What can she do other than answer email from there? If she has a family illness she should take pto time like everyone else would have to then family leave. She is a joke doubt she is doing anything from home.

If Utica is struggling then why would they even consider making flounders part of the Utica pool? It would benefit flounders due to the am best rating going back to A- for them, but wouldn't flounders financial situtation and 148.3 loss ratio hurt Utica? Don't understand the thought process here.

It's always nice to check on Topix to see how Utica national is doing. All these postings show the great culture that is created at un. I am surprised Doug has not chimed in. Well good luck at the concentration camps.

You are correct. The Old Mother Mutual is gone. You know the one that made money, knew what they were doing, cared about the employees, deserved a big ego. Its gone and not coming back without a change in leadership.

It's crystal clear what is going on. Floundes never shoud have been purchased and now am best is insisting they be made apart of the utica pool by 7-1-2014 since their am best rating is under review. this is going to impact Utica's bottom line. Why does Dougie have so much faith in John Anderson and Gloria Corral to fix the loss ratio problem? No one can fix a 148.3 loss ratio. flounders will bring down UN for sure.

this company is a pioneer within the insurance industry. Our employees stand on his or her own merits.at times a worker either professional or rank and file will have a day they are challenged. We are constantly reviewing all employees. These actions translate into ways to improve. our workforce has some of the best in the business. If their good no if their not great at what they do they don't work here. At times humans have indiscretions they do not reflect the workforce as a whole.I encourage any employee that has a disagreement with a co-worker to bring the issue(s) to the attention of their supervisor. Other wise put in your resignation. Thank You-Upper level administrator.

UN is no better or worse than any other company. You are paid to work either you like it or not. That is why is called a JOB and not a vacation. You don't like the culture, organization, workload, your supervisor hair style ...?... you are free to leave and find something better.
You can not find anything else? Well, in that case you may have the problem with that guy in your mirror.

It tells a lot about you and your self respect when you work for the company that you don't like. Kind of definition of looser isn't it?
It is a job, you don't have to like it, but at least you should respect it.
At the end, it still pays the bills, doesn't it?

It's funny because these "If you don't like it than leave" comments are exactly the problem. Anyone paying attention to the comments here would understand that the issue isn't really with the employees but the corporate culture.

"no better, no worse"? How many regional offices, lines of business and departments have we lost in the past three years? Evaluating staff is a necessary process but going to work feels more like a matter of WHEN the axe will fall rather than IF. You're crazy if you aren't shopping your resume.

Upper management allowed for this mad scramble to save the company from AM Best. Their decisions now are reactive and desperate. A pioneering and proactive company could have mitigated the damage to personnel by fixing things when they should have been fixed. People have a right to be bitter.

All that can't be helped now, but management could at least recognize they're creating this culture themselves. They can't provide us with the perks we used to have, and that's fine. We can take that on the chin. Just stop standing over our shoulders like the grim reaper.

Either Utica Natuonal will be taken over by a larger insurance carrier or the doors will be closed for good within 3 years. That's my prediction, take it for what it's worth. I work in the Home Office, and there's rumors swirling daily. I won't sit here & bash the company that pays me, but I will say the culture that has been set forth by years of poor management & poor decision making is starting to take it's toll on all employees, good ones, and bad ones. A good friend of mine who works in the Downtown office said there are 10 current job openings down there and within the last two months over a dozen people have quit between claims and underwriters. She said the underwriting manager and claims manager have horrible reputations amongst their peers and nobody wants to work for either of them. That's just the small downtown office. Multiply that chaos by 20 and you have the Home Office! It's so sad to see. This could be a major employer and contributor to this community. And it's a community that could desperately use it. When I was a kid anyone who had a parent that worked for Utica National was "lucky". Who is saying that now? Most people feel bad for the ones that are still here. Ugh.
