Let's not forget all those wonderful United Way Campaigns that all employees are FORCED to contribute to or otherwise be threatened with demotion and/or termination. Always threatening employees.

I see members of the finance area meeting for lunch at 12:20 then they leave at 1:45 since when is the lunch hour one and half hours? I want to work in that area they come in late walk around all day and leave on time. Where do I sign up? And part time person who does not get lunch attends and gets paid for it.

Don't blame the people they were forced to attend, from what I hear no one wants to work in that area you will never go any where unless you are a bully or have a penis. Ask Frank he screws up and yet where can you find him in the credit union with Michelle in her office sitting on his lap.

Dig deep in your pockets, fellow employees. The United Way is in the process of collecting school supplies for the fall for parents who are too lazy and cheap to take care of their own kids. In conjunction with Utica National they are hoping to collect $6000.00 worth of supplies. I'll bet you can't wait to go shopping for other people's kids, can you? Especially knowing that within a week most of it will be lost or stolen or thrown out.
Ain't it great to work here? Remember, if you don't contribute, big brother will punish you.

This company was always a bunch of hypocrites and losers. Everyone in a management position was more concerned about their image rather than the work they were suppose to do.
Only losers at Utica Mutual because they can't get hired any place else.
Only thing worse is the Board of Directors. Look at the list of losers and small time crooks they choose. What a crap company.

Nothing changes at Utica Mutual. Image was the most important thing to all the "Executives" when I worked there 30 years ago and it still is.

Utica Mutual only hires the rejects that can't get a job with any other insurance company for their underwriters. None of them could ever get hired by a Stock Company where REAL underwriting is done.

The place is 80% full of non workers or are scamming the system. And they wonder why expenses are out of control. They think the solution is getting rid of the good workers or outsourcing to those who know nothing about the company.

Many of the comments on this board are somewhat true to some degree. I can attest that 95% of management is terrible. they treat the employees that do all the work and know what they are doing like crap . eventually those employees leave and do get jobs with other companies. The company is struggling under the direction of the current regime. I believe the current regime has been there for over 12 years. They have only posted a profit 2 out of the 12 years. This is measured by their combined ratio. They have been cash flow underwriting for many years. another words living off investments. unfortunately, those investments are drying up due to the economy. I hope am best does not downgrade them. I would hate to see the negative impact to our already struggling local economy. however, they need to overhaul management from the ground floor to the top and get rid of the board of directors.

Some things never change. I worked there 45 years ago and the same things were being said then. When I first started, right out of high school, the going phrase was "Utica Mutual is a great place to work it you don't need money. Good place to get your training and then get a real job. It was almost like family. Then The regime changed just before I left and things quickly went downhill. The majority of employees have been complaining since. And apparently, nothing has changed. Upper management has no clue. So sad.

That is because the "good workers" are at the top of their salary grid and out sourcing is a "black and white" type of mentality.

I worked there for several years, the "mother mutual" comments are funny, and theses comments are coming from actual employees, because that is the "insider" nickname for the company that was commonly used at the office. Management is rarely loved by employees, but these people are correct, the management at Utica National is horrible. They intimidate and belittle employees, take all the credit when things go well, and put the blame on others when they don't. It's all about who's ass you kiss, and for the lady's ,who's di** you suck.

Top management has no problem throwing people under the bus. It's a pit, and a chintzy paycheck.

It's sad that a place like this is a major employer around here. As someone else posted, and if it's true, the seemingly exploit the local depressed economy to exploit and mistreat people. That is terrible.

And they've lost money 10 out of the last 12 years? That's incredible. Who the hell is running the place? I guess the management there is immune from basic free market forces.

Suffice it to say: it's an awful place to work. However, finding another job in Utica is tough. They do exploit their employees, and we sheep never push back. Oh well.
