Those would be the excellent colleges and universities that have been here for the last few decades? You know, the years when the population and economy imploded?
"This time will be different!" really should be Utica's official slogan.
So true!

Griffo's new cyber news release is almost literally a carbon copy of an announcement all those morons made two - three years ago. There is no plan for any foundry or actual plant it's the usual hoofity poofity and the sheep who can barely read or spell believe it and attack the people laughing at their latest debacle.

Nobody is going to move to hour area so you can tax the living fk out of them and suck them into your corrupt public sector support machine.

Here's why-

Highest taxed county in the highest taxed state.

Corrupt and incompetent city council.

Racist police department.(Just check their facebook!)

State has enormous unfunded pension rolls.

Rerun politicians, musical council.

Birthplace of "Friends & Family Plan"

Felons in office.

Schools rated lowest in the state.(Speaks volumes!)

Idiotic traffic and road layout.

Capitol of taxpayer funded corporate nano waste.

Home of the fake nano plant.

Full of human waste. Sewers are worst in the NE.

Like Detroit- Progressive Liberal Dem Stronghold.

Stupid gullible people, think "nano" is coming!

Systemically corrupt law enforcement, DA.

Unavailable Mayor, city leaders. Responds only to photo ops and big checks.

Board of Education- systemically corrupt and inept.

CLOSED property databases, LAST in region to go online.

Full of minor service-based industry.

Highest level of childhood poverty in region.

Opaque government, hides lawsuits and settlements from public.

Ignorant media, talks "Boilermaker" instead of ISSUES.

Historically abusive police dept. that Does No Wrong.

Official wrongs and abuse are protected by media.

Wholly ignorant average population.

Schools teach "football" instead of pragmatics.

No scenery compared to other much more beautiful areas.

Historically neglected by downstate/Albany.

Judiciary is corrupt, protects its family.

Highest animal abuse levels in tri-state area.

Highest gas costs.

Highest energy costs.

Full of rosey glassed ostrich flocks.

Outrageous levels of alcohol and drug abuse.

"Meth Labs" are the only tech industry ACTUALLY growing.

Highest level of lead in housing in state.

City is barely solvent, lawsuits will devastate Utica in 2014.

Fund balance and bookkeeping are a joke.

Full of racists.

Highest poor immigrant influx in ENTIRE USA.

3rd highest sex-offender population IN ENTIRE US.

Highest paid state employees.

Gun owners are criminalized by SAFE act etc.

Center of the biggest Nannystate in the US.

Hiring for Quad-C is reportedly starting within 90 days.
Despite the impending launch of the facility Oneida County still hasn't filed a flow mitigation plan for the excess outflow from Quad-C. Curious that, since it's a requirement of the DEC consent order. Under the terms of that agreement the the 2 million gallons a day of outflow from Quad-C has to be compensated for by a 10 million gallon mitigation effort.
No mitigation plan has been filed.
No money is budgeted for the required system upgrades for mitigation.
No money is proposed in next years budget for said mitigation efforts.
Stop telling them the uncomfortable truths and ruining the sheep bah bah bah party with details even the media doesn't understand or explain to them. It interferes with the "Utica Pride" and "must" make you "jealous" and "negative" of course.
I love how the people who cry and justify denying reality to save their hurt feelings from "negativity" use that as an excuse to cry. Most often it's from people like Time Reed and the New Hartford bunch who have their fingers in all these pies and wish not only to keep the status quo they want MORE people to rip off and tell them how awesome their little fishbowl full of fishpoop is and sing their songs right along with the news like the OD and WKTV WIBX.

Not exactly true. Plenty of people have tried to reverse the downward spiral only to be shut down by the "old guard". the old saying is true. "You can't fight city hall".

Add that for generations we've been fed plenty of stories about how this or that taxpayer funded project was going to be the key to an economic turnaround only to be disappointed and a little poorer in the end. That has a lot to do with why you find attitudes are what they are in this area. Nano is the newest bandwagon. We can only hope that this time will be different but when you peel back the layers you see that it is likely just more of the same.

Back to the topic of this thread. It's been my experience that this area has some of the most generous people anywhere when it comes to charitable giving. It really is a remarkable level of giving when you consider the economic condition of Utica and the entire region. It's something to be proud of.

What Nano center?

Did I miss something in the news?

Did CNSE(SUNY) find a tenant for the Marcy nano site that the taxpayers are going to develop?

I hadn't heard that.

Another ostrich pollyanna rosy red bespectacled whiner. Deny the reality, rather than admit it an work for a real change. Attack the people who plainly see how dull and gullible you are despite the obvious holes in the nano lies floated by politicians and their crony-buds. I swear the only people who scream to the sky about these falsehoods and promises are some of the people who live off them.
If you can't handle people telling you the truth from outside your idiot-bubble don't read. Crying and whining about the messenger is an unsophisticated worthless approach and just reveals how crippled you people are when it comes to addressing the real problems.

My experience tells me that there are people who love the area but hate what the powers that be have done to it.

I think many would move back in a minute if this area had a better tax, economic and political climate. That goes for New York in general as well.

The problem is that everyone already knows how to fix the area's problems- cut the massive tax load. Study after study has identified the area's bloated taxes as the primary cause of all it's lost jobs and population. Young people won't stay here if there aren't any jobs, but the businesses that provide those jobs leave because of the business climate in New York.

That's it. That's the problem.

And no amount of positive thinking will change a thing until it's fixed.

By the standards of the political party that's controlled New York state for close to fifty years the Utica area should be an absolute paradise. Somehow, despite having the highest taxes...er, I mean "investments" in the nation, we have nothing to show for it. Basic infrastructure like roads and sewers are literally falling apart. Our schools are a disaster. Crime is rampant despite spending a higher percentage of the municipal budget on public safety than nearly any city in the country.

CNSE IS the tenant. That's the scam. No manufacturer or chip maker. Just an organization making another organization the tenant in hopes that the Army Corps of Engineers will accept the ponzi scheme.

Maybe the CNSE will sublet to SEMATECH which will sublet to Deloitte, which will sublet to 3 other marketing think tanks...
