Recently went to this place because my younger brother was renting from this place. I could not believe within 5 minutes of listening to their bulls@it how much they were robbing people there. Really sad too see, after I did the math I saw hat people were paying 3 to 4 times he normal amount for items. When I asked why,I was told,"were else they gonna go"... This place needs to be investigated!! I bet there ar a lot of people they ripped off!!!

They aren't forcing people to rent their items you idiot! They have a right too charge whatever they want, just like you have a right to decide not to rent it. Yes, the prices they charge are outrageous but if someone decides to rent from them, it is due to their stupidity and only they are to blame.

You failed at math because the markup is closer to between 2 and 2.5 times the retail price of the item at places like these. Best of all, it is perfectly LEGAL when you sign a rental agreement with them. When your brother has bad credit that he resorts to renting to own furniture, well, this is all there is for him. Chances are, with your poor math skills, you're not far behind his credit score either.

Learn about it. If you pay for furniture "on time", you have been taken for a sucker. For God's sake, get a freaking piggy bank and SAVE some money. THEN go buy the furniture. If you deal with any of these rent to own places, you deserve to get taken. These repo-happy businesses crop up wherever the economy is bad. It doesn't take a PhD to recognize that they run a "legal" but disgusting scam on the poor. Kinda like check cashing services that charge a fee to give you your money. Open a damned bank account and get the service for free, stupid.

People that 'rent' from these so-called furniture rental businesses.........well, they normally can't get a loan from a reputable furniture dealer. Bottom line: these people have NO credit or very poor credit!

If turkey were 10 cents a pound, these ppl couldn't afford it.

Investigated for what? They are a business. That can charge what they can get for their products. If they don't have customers they'll have to lower their prices or risk going out of business.

I think the those who need to be investigated are the those who forced you and your brother to go there. You were forced to go there an live by the terms they dictated right?

People rent from this kind of place because they have no money. They have no money because they do stupid things like renting from this kind of place.

Someone I know asked about a washing machine at Aaron's. If you figured out the monthly "rent-to-own" price over the course of the contract, you were paying over $3000 for a washing machine.

Absolutely right. There are people who can't understand this. They're either naive or ignorant. I've heard people say, "It's only $20 a month" which SOUNDS cheap, until you start multiplying that by the endless months. No matter where you're getting furniture, appliances, cars, if you pay for it on time, it's going to cost you more. The lower the monthly payment, the more interest you're going to shell out, and it's compounded. Even at SIMPLE interest, 1.5% a month comes out to 18% over the course of a year. These stupid rent to own companies count on their customers to miss payments, pay late, try for the lowest possible monthly payment schedule. They count on people wanting immediate gratification. It's how they make their money. Want furniture? Hit the yard sales. Live with that until you can save up enough to pay cash, and then buy the best stuff you can, and take care of it.

Maybe we should provide government assistance for their television purchase. It would be a lot cheaper than the government assistance we provide for their multiple pregnancies when they have no television...

TV is so sexualized, it's probably having the opposite effect. If we can pay farmers not to grow crops, couldn't we pay welfare recipients not to have kids?

I knew someone that rented a laptop I believe it was 20 a week for 18-24 months. That would make it 3-4 times the value. Most of the people who buy from them cannot get credit or do not know how to save.

These places wouldn't be in business if they didn't have customers. That means there are a lot of people out there who aren't smart enough to know not to deal with them.

Anyone who does business with them just needs simple math skills to figure out that $20 times the number of weeks in the contract is the total. Not rocket science.

Is the company stupid or is it those who deal with them?
