I am so upset with the ER at St. Lukes!!! My child choked on a baby veggie puff, so I called 911. He was taken to St. Lukes hospital. When we arrived he was still struggling to breath and whezzing after choking. The ER put me in a room and just left no one checked in on him right away or anything. After about %min of us being in the room I had to yell in the hall way for someone to get in there he was still choking, that finally got there attention. They took a X-ray and then after about 3hrs later came in and said he has asperation phenmia and sent me on my way with antibiotics. In the car ride home he was still stuggling to breath and gasping so I called my doc. office and they suggested to go to St. Elizebeths. When I arrived there he was so bad the ER doc was going to intabate him because he was struggling to breath still. They stablized him and sent him to University pedirtic ER. In the end we found out his air way was closing and his epiglottis is not fully developed! I am glad to say after a few steriod treatments he's doing much better.. Shame on St. Lukes for not looking into this more this si a child life.. I hope people read this and if ever have a Emergency they don't go there!!!!

Unfortunately, this area ends up with 1 of 2 types of medical people. 1st is the people that grew up here and want to stay. 2nd is, the bottom of the barrel, who couldn't get hired anywhere else. It's no surprise that the medical care in this area is crap.

File a complaint

Several years ago management decided to get rid of the ER staff that had been there for years because they weren't "team players". They are now left with inexperienced staff and poor management

Only through public complaint and perhaps to the State Dept of Health will anything change. the staff there is aware and ashamed....

Im sure they are ashamed. As they should be!!!A childs life was at stake and they clearly didnt have a clue what was wrong. You say they have inexperienced staff?Well what the hell, are we as patients just suppose to go there to die?IF thats the case then I will just stay home.Im sorry if I sound rude, not trying to be,but Im mad as hell about that. Its not the first horror story Ive heard about that St. Lukes.Let alone things that happened to my own family members.God forbid if you dont have health insur.they have to legally see you,but the qaulity of care they give you and the way they treat you, like second class citizen.Shame on them,I wonder what charges this woman can bring against this so called hosp.If that was my kid,I would be up at that hospital right now screaming.I really love when they call you in and leave you in the hallway for hours on end.

Just what Meghan said....I was not standing up for the hospital, the ER is a disaster by their own design..management thinks any old nurse or doc can care for children and that just isn't so

They made it so difficult for anyone to work in the ER...if you questioned management decisions you were punished...experience was not respected

NYS Dept of health, JACHO and your own physician should be notified

And it does not matter whether you have insurance or not. The knowledge is not there.

PEOPLE ! if the kid had a compromised resp status the EMT never would have left him alone in a room. They dont just drop the kid off at the door. you are seen immediatly when you come in by ambulance. Before the EMT leaves they have to give a report to a nurse or practioner. Lady, I hope your kid is ok but COME ON.

It's not just kids. I went with a cellulits near my eye that got bigger as I waited for assistance. They sent me home with an a script for an anti-biotic and my eye had slammed shut. My doctor admitted me the next day, it had become so serious. Stayed a week. My doc asked why I didn't go to the ER. When I said I was there for 4 hours and sent home, even worse off, he just shook his head. St. E's is no better, no worse.

They may have given the report to a nurse then the nurse may not have checked up on him again as she should have

Unfortunately the peds knowledge is not there.

there is a peds unit at St Lukes but they do not respect the nurses who work up there for the knowledge they have...those in power think kids are little adults which doesn't work when you take care of them.
You need special training to do it

It's not the hospital, it's the staff. And this area has lousy doctors. That is why my doc is out of town. I'd rather have a good doc a little bit away, than a local idiot!! But in my experience, if you have to go to one of them, St. E's is the one to use. Rude at St. Luke's
