It is only a matter of time before someone uses a radio controlled (RC) aircraft or drone to inflict terror on an event. Precautions are currently taken at open air venues to control what is brought into that event by those in attendance. However, there is nothing to stop a RC aircraft from entering the event and potentially causing terror or injuries to those in attendance. The size of RC Aircrafts need to be limited by law or banned completely!!

I agree. They have already captured some people plotting terrorist attacks with RC planes...

Making the law against "rc" would be a joke. You can set the kits like I have to "dead reckoning" and forget them. There's no radio involved if you prefer, it's up to the mission and what you are doing with your drone. A lot of good that law will do anyway. They can't stop us from buying the parts or making them ourselves as we already do anyway for the brains and speed controllers.
Good luck with that law!
I disagree. They are as dangerous if not more dangerous than guns. At the very least certain types of RC Aircraft/unmanned aerial vehicles need to be registered with the government. The government already has all kinds of laws for guns and some RC aircraft are a potentially a greater danger in the wrong hands. Here are some interesting articles:

http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09/29/anal...

http://www.armscontrol.ru/uav/report.htm

Just like guns certain RC Aircraft should require government regulation and/or be illegal to own. If you build a RC aircraft that is illegal to own and are caught it becomes a felony just like owning certain guns that are regulated (e.g. automatic weapons or anything now on the NY State banned list).

<quoted text>Either way good luck getting them banned. How are you going to round up every radio crystal and motor? Good luck hoping for THAT law! They're so easy to make now and you can order your own and the people who make the pc have NO IDEA what they are making for you from your files. Not going to happen because it's impossible to stop people from arranging electronic components so they know how to fly.
I agree you amy not be able to stop someone from making a RC aircraft or controller but you can arrest a person when they are caught owning an outlawed RC aircraft or are caught flying one. Size and power limitations at some point will likely be imposed by the government. The government is already looking at banning cameras on RC aircraft and it is a matter of time that gets expanded to include size and power. Great hobby but unfortunately limitations may need to be imposed...

Why don't we just ban all public events? as well as all guns, knives, axes, hammers, cars, trucks, don't forget commercial aircraft, like what was used on 9-11 and how about ladders and swimming pools? What the heck if we just stay home and lock ourselves in a room then we would be safe. HE WHO SACRIFICES LIBERTY FOR SAFETY, DESERVES NEITHER.

How about instead of changing everything and everyone, WE CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT.

No one needs a rc signal goof, the day the first one is used they will jam/trace signals around events. A simple timer and chemical reaction can never be stopped. Go fly your balsa rubber band plane.

Thats dumb. They cant time when it goes off that way moron that makes that useless ro that is what the terrorist would use goof. Dont quit the day job.

If they do jam signals it will have a large impact on various types of events. No communication between car and pit during NASCAR events, all NASCAR fans in attendance at a race will no longer be able to listen to their driver during the events, all feeds on football fields will need to go back to wired, no wireless mikes on concert performers, etc. You may be able to notch out specific frequencies that are not jammed though this would be a risk.

I agree with you that if a RC aircraft ever caused a terror event that wireless signals would likely be jammed though not sure if this would still address the issue. A RC plane heading toward a venue or event would just keep flying in a straight path once the signal became lost/jammed...

I feel regulations on size and power of RC aircraft will still be necessary...

You better never try doing it, funny to see blown to pieces idiot, when you turn it on and the first car to talk, first cop, the first speech kills you. Now go fly a drone with your nascar gear.

Learn something about bands.

Never would, but who says someone smart would not use a different band when they developed their controller? Someone could choose to develop a controller using GHz frequencies instead of Mhz frequencies. Some RC controllers are looking at the 2.4 GHz frequency. Why could something not be developed in say in the 700MHz communication frequency range, though interference could be an issue. RC hobbyists have a great knowledge in many areas and often develop and modify their own equipment.

Why are you ignoring your flaw, you said nascar communication, you're were wrong, now your telling me something. You have no clue, I do. I don't need knowledge, you do.

No one would use a freq that could be interrupted, so your entire rant was incorrect. We have unlocked lasers, communication is a baby toy. Only a idiot would use a method that can be interrupted.
Windows 8 was safe, in the real world it was cracked before it hit RTM. What can't be stopped or changed, manipulated, is the old fashioned way of manual.
Your welcome.

Yes you are correct... I became blinded by RC with not thinking outside the box. FYI, laser can be interrupted by environment, smoke,... so would be less effective (or ineffective) in bad weather.

In either case, the size and power of RC aircraft overall need to be

And so sorry you will never put a limit on drone weight give that one up. They're too useful and we're already doing it. Some guys have 100lb drones they race entire kegs of beer on them. There's never been a restriction so far and it's 50 years too late the cat's out of the bag.
People will refuse to allow "government" cornballers to shut off radios at events. They don't like any fun unless it involves them being the center of attention.
Can't you tell? Look at that comedy team of jokers that turned up up at the Herkimer Shooting with their sights on 180 backwards, poor control like keystone cops and zero range or push. Period. They'd try to tell people not to have phones and radios at events and get laughed off the stage.
With all these shootings people have now seen that the police-state is ineffective and is largely a big fat gob of pension porkers who couldn't. Sorry. But that's the way it is. Maybe a few more ridiculous genius ideas will help like they did Monday?
I suggest you build yourself a spark gap an crystal oscillator jammer, as they know your going against the grain and are going to strike you soon.

Mixing, OOO AAA, they will stop your drone but you won't stop theirs soon.

Interesting, posts 3, 5, 8. 15, and 23 explained how rc car stuff was used in the boston bombings just from the pictures of the debris and how to use the parts to go catch the guys and they pointed out how long it was taking for the feds to figure that out. They also warned about people someday using hobby drones to attack people and how to stop it. Now it turns out the post was right and looks like someone is embarrassed so they deleted the posts!

Another topix first! Its only now just "breaking news" at CNN.

Almost word for word Topix called it.

Authorities investigating the Boston Marathon bombing have concluded that the bombs mostly likely relied on components from remote-controlled toy cars for the detonation mechanism, according to a bulletin from the FBI and Homeland Security Department.

Fox News has learned that the bulletin, sent Monday night to update local, state and federal law enforcement, is based on new forensic analysis of the bombs and reads in part,“each device likely incorporated an electric fusing system using components from remote controlled toy cars, such as a transmitter and receiver pair operating at 2.4 GigaHertz, and an electric speed controller used as a switch mechanism and sub-c rechargeable battery packs as power source."

House Homeland Security Committee Mike McCaul, who has been briefed on the bombing investigation, told Fox News the new information is further confirmation the two bombs were not made by amateurs.

“This transmitter that was used out of a toy car, that's a very sophisticated pressure cooker bomb that you don't see every day," McCaul said. "My judgment is they had training performed by either an individual or individuals who are still at large.”

Fox News is told the bulletin also concludes that the two bombs were not identical, as the early reporting suggested. One bomb contained bb’s and nails for shrapnel, while the other only contained nails.

Jonathan Gilliam, a former member of the FBI’s New York Joint Terrorism Task Force and former Navy SEAL, told Fox News that the quantity and effectiveness of the devices also suggested formal, hands-on training, not expertise that could be gleaned from online Al Qaeda instruction manuals like “Inspire” magazine.

“If you look in a book and try to construct something, you can make an object. But when you add in explosives to it and you don't know how those explosives should be handled, you're setting yourself up for a lost hand or even life," Gilliam explained.

Fox News was told the type of explosive was listed in the bulletin as a “blend” containing “nitrate and perchlorate-based oxidizers,” which Gilliam added was consistent with fireworks explosives. Fox News confirmed Monday that Tamerlan Tsarnaev bought fireworks on Feb. 6 in New Hampshire and asked for the most powerful and loudest available.

Thats a great start but we also need to ban all cars, trucks and any other motor vehicles that use the roadways. They might be used as explosive payload delivery devices! Then we can shut down all the roadways and make it illegal for anyone to use them.
Next we should should destroy all forms of motorized vehicles, including: all aircraft, motor vehicles, trains, farming & construction equipment. Then we can blow up all the oil fields and convert our way of life to that of the Amish.
